Sick 14-month-old - advice? by
carlye
I know this is a pregnancy forum, but as many of you have kids, I
thought I'd run this one by you...
DD has been sick for almost two weeks now with an ear and sinus
infection. Last Tuesday, she was prescribed Omnicef. She seemed
better for about a day, but then her cough worsened over the...

Nikki? ... cute twin bodysuits by
carlye
Nikki,
Haven't seen you out here for a while, but when I was paging through a
magazine in the OB office the other day, I saw an add for these "Thing
1" and "Thing 2" bodysuits, and I just had to point them out to you in
case you hadn't seen them. They aren't exactly cheap ($14 for a...

Can a baby drop without feeling any relief? by
carlye
For the last five days or so, I've been feeling the uncomfortable signs
of a dropped baby -- *greatly* increased urgency/frequency of
urination, pressure on my pelvic region, and some new back pain -- but
I haven't felt the "relief" of a less crowded stomach or lungs. Is it
possible for a baby to...

False labor/painful B-H by
carlye
For the last 3 days, I have had intermittent contractions, and it's
beginning to drive me crazy. It's a low backache accompanied by a
menstrual cramp-type feeling. Since Thursday, I've been getting these
about every 8-10 minutes or so for an hour or so, and the whole
"episode" happens about 3-5...

Another belly button question by
carlye
My belly button only flattened, never popped out, while pregnant with
DD, but through this pregnancy, it has been sticking out since about
the 5th or 6th month... until last night.
Sometime in the evening between my changing out of my "work" clothes
and my going to bed, it flattened, almost became...

My little one has arrived! by
carlye
Hale is here!
The vital statistics: Hale was born at 2:57 p.m. on 6/2/06, and was 9
pounds 3 ounces, and 21 1/2 inches long.
For a number of reasons, we opted for an induction on Friday, June 2.
I checked in at 7:30 a.m. and was given a quarter dose of cytotec
around 8 a.m. It had my dilated to...

"Normal" recovery after "normal" birth -- lochia, clots, pain by
carlye
I've been researching on the internet, and I can't get a straight
answer about what is "normal" and what is cause for a call to the
doctor, as far as bleeding, passing clots, and having pain when you're
approaching 2 weeks post-partum. Anyone know what really is "normal"?
I didn't even tear...

Infant elective surgery by
Carlye
Hi all. I have on and off been a frequent poster on both MKP and MKB,
but since MKB is all but a desert wasteland these days (you think MKP
is lacking in posts!) and I have never posted on misc.kids, I thought
I'd just see if any of you have some information or advice for me.
I was wondering...

Inspiring or horrifying new mom news story? by
carlye
This news story has been fairly well-publicized in my area for the
last week or so and has been on numerous national news programs. I
don't -think- it's been posted here, and I'm curious to know what you
all thought of it -- I am horrified at the number of "Good for her!"-
type responses I've...

End-of-pregnancy preparation for labor by
carlye
Okay, so I am coming down the homestretch, though I've still got ample
time to prep for an easier (and perhaps sooner?) labor.
This is what I'm doing:
1. Taking one EPO capsule orally and one vaginally daily
2. Lots and lots of walking!
3. Either squatting on the floor or sitting on a birthing...

Varicose vein info and treatment (TMI and graphic) by
carlye
Umm... I am having a rather embarassing varicose vein problem. I
think I've had the veins for at least a few weeks now, but two weeks
ago they were brought to my attention when I was "spotting," and they
were blamed as a possible reason, and now for the last few days they
have been causing me...

Another pseudoephedrine purchase rant (sorry) by

I asked a while back about people's problems in various states and
countries purchasing Sudafed or pseudoephedrine products, and I just
had to write a quick post on my latest frustration.
Our "Meth Watch" laws just became a bit more strict, and now, my local
Target (my favorite discount store,...

Colostrum production early in pregnancy? by
carlye
I am about 12 weeks along by my doctor's "feel"-based estimate, 13 or
14 weeks along according to my false/positive HPT estimate, and this
morning, I noticed I'm already leaking colostrum. I stopped
breastfeeding DD around the time I got pregnant (so 3 months ago or so,
but I'd been down to one...

"The urge to push" -- question by
carlye
Okay, so I am a far way off from the point where this is going to be an
issue, but I was just thinking...
Does every woman really get "the urge to push" when she is laboring?
Before I had DD, my mom and sister-in-law both told me labor "war
stories" and both of them involved that precise moment...

Ultrasound question - heart chambers not visible by
carlye
I had my ultrasound this morning. The baby is giving me a due date of
June 2 (I'm measuring 16 weeks, 5 days), which is a little later than I
had expected. The doctor still says I'm measuring at about 18 weeks,
which is closer to where I thought I was.
Anyway, it's a boy (which I was hoping...

Standard prenatal testing in U.S. (loss ment, and ranting -- sorry) by
carlye
DH and I were up late into the night talking about the passing of our
little niece Christmas Eve. It's becoming more "real" to us, and it's
starting to sink in enough that it's also making us even more concerned
about our little boy -- as you may recall from my posts last week, we
learned just a...

How far can prenatal depression go? by
carlye
I'm desperate for an answer to why I've been sick, virtually nonstop,
since the beginning of November. I have had identifiable illnesses --
three sinus infections, a stomach flu (resulting in 4 days of
subsequent "illness" due to extreme dehydration), bronchitis, an ear
infection, and a couple...

How long can one stay on the BRAT diet? by
carlye
Due to um, digestive distress shall we say, I have been on the BRAT --
bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast -- diet (with a few cheats here
and there) for a week now. I do not what has caused the problem.
Initially I thought it was some antibiotics I was on, but yogurt made
no difference, and I've...

Perms & pregnancy: Dangerous? Stupid? by
carlye
Are hair permanents dangerous to get while pregnant? I'm just about 28
weeks. If not, do they possibly "take" differently than when one is
not pregnant?
I haven't had a perm in just about 20 years, but my hair is driving me
crazy. It's always been stick straight, but now it isn't even...

Pregnancy prep suggestions? by
carlye
Hello all. It's been a while since I was on here...
DH and I have decided to start trying for #3. Not sure whether I'm
even -able- to get pregnant at this point (AF still hasn't returned,
probably because I haven't quite managed to fully wean DS), but we're
trying nonetheless.
Anyway, I want to...
