more on g'mas .. much lighter version by Stephanie[_2_]
I am a struggling flybaby. The one tenet that I adhere to is ... I don't do clutter. I don't do knick knacks. My MIL (lovely lady) keeps sending crap home with my daughter. She finds the crap that has been hanging around her house for 40 years and give it to DD to "play with." Examples; 4...

child care provider chores (starting new thread...) by Stephanie[_2_]
I am starting a new thread since this has gone afield of the original. I think some inferences were made on context by what folks may have meant so I am going to clarify my position (I hope). I don't have any issue with any parent who does not want their care provider to drive their...

Don't Call It "Algebra"; Call It Something Warm And Fuzzy by Way Back Jack[_8_]
COMMENT: Yeah, that's the ticket, call it "Yomomma," or "Slam Dunk." That should create interest in the dumbed-down set. ___________ Would name change help algebra students? Posted by Dave Murray | The Grand Rapids Press July 03, 2008 11:09AM As Shakespeare wrote, a rose by any other name would...

brutal honesty please by toypup[_2_]
Here I am at the community wading pool. It is shallow enough for toddlers to walk in. We brought a few toys for the kids, like a ring and a raft. A rather large family comes to share the pool. They didn't bring toys for their kids. Their kids played with our kids' toys and other's toys, which...

grandparents and parents by Stephanie[_3_]
Reading the car thread made me think on the issue of grandparents doing things their own way. I am in accord with Ericka that if the kids are hanging out with the grandparents, the grandparents should have the liberty to use their judgement as they see fit. I would tend to see driving from point A...

neighbor complaint about my autistic child by Irrational Number
My next-door neighbor railed into me this morning. My 5-year-old Pillbug is autistic and screeches a lot. I honestly had no idea it was this bad, though - I've learned to block out the sounds of his tantrums... So, that's my fault. Anyway, apparently, neighbor's wife is now getting migraines,...

eyelash by Stephanie[_2_]
My 4yo daughter has very shortened eyelashes. My MIL first noticed it. My MIL and FIL then proceeded to question (maybe grill?) her about it. She told them a bunch of stuff, none of it sounds terribly real. MIL and FIL are convinced that they were cut. (That is scary to me that someone might...

son is often tired by Stephanie[_2_]
My son is very often tired. I am a firm believer in the importance of sleep! I think the main problem is that his mind is always thinking and moving. He has a hard time stilling his mind. He will lay awake in bed playing in his head all sorts of pretend games. One thing that definitely helps is...

the requirement that the state *provide* an education by Stephanie[_2_]
I am often flummoxed by how much time and energy is put into forcing kids into school. I am also flummoxed with the number of children who come to school not ready to learn. And I don't mean *anything* about intellectually ready. I mean things like having had an adequate breakfast with a...

Laxatives by Dad[_2_]
A while ago there was a thread about some laxatives for kids; non-habit forming and non-addictive. It is available OTC. I can't find that. I tried Benefiber chew able tablets, they seem to give him a bloated tummy. This is for a 6yr old.

Signing by Welches
#3 decided today that he'd start signing (milk). He's gone from 1-2 daytime feeds to about every half an hour. Now I'm thirsty... and I must make sure no one teaches him to sign "chocolate", that was a big mistake with #2. Any idea for the sign for "healthy foods" anyone? :-) Debbie

sleep update by Stephanie[_2_]
Ericka wins the cupie doll, I think. And Chookie was it you who asked about mental stimulation? I think the former change, no screen in the pm, has had the desired effect! We also have been doing more hands on activities that challenge the mind. Maybe more fun in the day is helping, or maybe it...
