How to start storing milk? by
[email protected]
I'm going to be working part time within the next month and I want to
start stroing milk for when I'm away. I don't know when I will start
or how long I'll be away. Are there any tips that someone may have
about when to pump or how often so that I can get some milk stored up
for DS? Also, he...

Hale's lookup - levaquin by
Leslie S. Gottlieb
I went back to the doctor tonight as my sinus infection has moved down to my
lungs and the erythromycin is not working. After discussion with the doctor,
he prescribed 2 medicines - entrex PSE (which is guarfesine and psuedofed
and I think ok for nursing) and levaquin which he said is not. He said...

Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease by
Leslie
Lorelei has Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (got it from Teddy, who is
11--don't know where he picked it up) and her mouth hurts so bad that
she can't nurse. This has been going on for 36 hours now. She points
at her mouth and says, "Hurts." She'll latch on for about a second and
then pull off and...

Chomping instead of sucking by
Leslie
A friend of mine has recently had her first baby and she emailed me
that he has never learned to latch properly. They have stumped four
lactation consultants so I thought I'd try here. Basically the
problem is as it says in the subject line, he chomps instead of sucks,
although he will suck on a...

CTTS by
Leslie
When my big kids wanted to be picked up, they would hold up their arms
and say, "Hold you," which I thought was pretty cute. When Lorelei
wants me to pick her up, she says, "Arm." I guess she means she wants
to be in my arms. :-)

First Birthday! by
Leslie
Lorelei's first birthday was Thursday. We did not do anything special
on the day, but last night we had a dinner party (that's our first
birthday tradition--we have certain parties that we do for each year
for every child).
There were about thirty people and we had baked ziti and bread and
salad,...

Lack of Wet Diapers by
Leslie
This is probably going to sound like a crazy question to be asking at
this time (with Lorelei being 11 months old!), but . . .
Lorelei's diapers are just never that wet. Never soaking, never
leaking, even overnight. Barely even damp to the touch, sometimes. (We
use cloth, btw, just regular...

Today I finally found a girdle to try to control my bulging baby stomach under
the bridesmaid dress for my sister's wedding. I was showing it to Emily with
William looking on and he said, "Is that a new bra for the Bas (i.e. breasts)
to sleep in?"

not knowing. It had been a whole week af just me carrying around the secret.
So after he had...

Oops . . . by
Leslie
As usual, I have been having computer problems. This time it is two viruses
that ate my hard drive. I have been offline for over a month, and it will
probably be close to that before I get it back.
And I really miss "talking" to everyone here . . . and I need some support
right now . ....

William has a very active imagination and loves to pretend. He especially
likes to pretend that I am the baby and he is the mommy. So yesterday he said
to me, "Come on, Baby. It is time to go to church." Then he took my hand and
led me toward the den. I said, "What will we do at church?" He...

What an adorable story!
Reminds me (in a backwards way) of how William used to call cow's milk "cow ba"
(ba being his word for nursing).

Why formula feeding is "better": VENT by
Leslie
Some of you will probably remember me posting a few months ago about my cousin
with babies 10.5 months apart and my efforts to get her to nurse her newborn.
Well, he's three months old now and officially off breastmilk since about three
weeks ago (he was combifed from day one).
When she told me...

co-sleeping and SIDS by
Leslie
I read an article in the paper this morning about a two-week-old who died of
SIDS. His mother is using the tragedy as a springboard for a campaign
requiring by law that 1) all parents be CPR certified before leaving the
hospital and 2) that all parents of infants must have a baby monitor that...

Another reason to hate twiddling by
Leslie
William, age 2.5, *has* to twiddle on one breast while nursing from the other.
I wish I had put a stop to the habit when it was first beginning.
A few days ago, I nursed him after he was playing in the yard. Apparently, he
had been playing in . . . POISON IVY.
HE didn't get it--but I have it all...
