Washing pump parts - how to get them to dry in 3 hours? by
cjra
I've rented a Medela lactina (also used the Ameda at the hospital, not
sure which I prefer, both are ok but only Medela was available to
rent).
It's working well, my problem is how the heck I get the parts to dry in
the 3ish hours between use? We're running the a/c in the house so it's
not like...

Baby not interested in rolling over? by
cjra
I gave up on trying not to be a paranoid new mom ;-)
At 3.5 months DD had her checkup with the developmental specialist who
declared all as well developmentally, no residual effects from the
birth/nicu/drugs. She was doing everything she should do and more at
that point. Around that time she...

Update to a bunch of questions by
CJRA
I've asked a number of questions in the past few months and haven't
responded with an update, so I'll just do a summary. Thanks as always
for all the help and advice.
1. 6 month old and not rolling over
-after I posted of course DD rolled over the next day. Then I realized
she rolls from back to...

Why won't she eat?! by
cjra
This is more of a vent than anything...
DD has always been a reverse cycler since I started work. About 6
weeks ago I went away for 2.5 days and she started taking more by
bottle at daycare. That lasted the week. Then she started gradually
dropping back again, so much so that now, she's only...

What can I take for a cough? by
cjra
A really BAD cough?
I've had a cold -which starts with flu like symptoms but no fever -
every 2 weeks for months now. It gets better after a week then the
next week starts again. This time, it's at its worst, and the drainage
(finally - I was having a really hard time breathing at all, even...

weaning or maybe not, how to do it? by
cjra
I don't _want_ to wean DD. In my ideal world we'd continue going until
one of us is done. However we've already decided if at one year I'm
not ovulating, to wean as we're very anxious to TTC. At almost 10
months now, DD is still a nursing machine. She nurses regularly 3x/
night (the last few nights...

Constipated AGAIN?! Help! by
cjra
My poor little girl. Remeber about 6 weeks ago she went through a 3
week bought of pretty severe constipation (black, pellet like stools
on the few occassions she actually had stools). Finally after trying
to get prunes, ground flaxseed and ground bran into her as well as
prune juice mixed in...

How much non-human milk, if any? by
cjra
DD is 13 months and I'd like to wean off the pump in the daytime - am
having a hard time finding the time to pump, and she's not taking much
anyway. She's still otherwise nursed on demand (evenings and weekends)
which is a lot....I've given up trying to wean completely for now.
She's had goat...

How long did you pump? and starting solids? by
cjra
Ques 1 - DD will be 6 months old next week and has been EBF until
Christmas. I intend to let her self wean, so plan to BF for 2+ years in
theory. However, we also want to TTC rather soon, so we'll give her at
least a year of BF but if I don't ovluate by then, will wean. In any
case, when could I...

All night smorgasbord by
cjra
Well, only one item on the buffet line. DD is 5 months now, still
co-sleeping. We like it for the most part. I'd planned to transition
her whenever she cut back to 1-2 nursings per night. She's reverse
cycling so still eating a lot at night, but it had settled down. In
the last few weeks, however,...

Co-sleeping and a loud sleeper by
cjra
DD is in a cosleeper on the bed (I love this because I can reach over
and caress and calm her without moving, but can't roll over). And it
was going fine, but dang she's a loud sleeper! This only started the
last few days. She sleeps in 4 hr stretches, and she doesn't wake up
crying, she just...

Setting one's self up for failure? by
cjra
I am curious to hear other's perspectives. On another parenting board,
where most of the members are young and first time moms, I read so
often that they will 'try breastfeeding and if it doesn't go well,
stop."
Now, normally I'm all for trying and being realistic. But at least for
me, such an...

Cloth diapering - diapers don't fit with wraps? by
cjra
Maybe it's just us...
I have Chinese pre-folds, newborn size, and a number of wraps - bummis,
kushies, all newborn size. The diapers seem *way* too big for the
wraps, and at the same time we can't seem to get them in right so that
each poop stays on the diaper and not on the wrap, or is this...

Now I'm getting nervous -daycare starts on Monday by
cjra
And DD still won't take a bottle!
A friend managed to get her to take 5 mls on saturday. We've tried once
since then (were travelling Monday and she had her shots today). We've
been trying - tho not daily - since she was 6 weeks old and she's 11
weeks now. She just refuses. She DID take a bottle...

Should I worry about diahrea persisting? by
cjra
DD started having watery stools on Saturday (we were still in
Switzerland, returned Monday). Went to doc for her 2 month shots
Tuesday, he wasn't too worried, but they're not getting any better.
It's already 5 days now. She didn't have a fever tho did have a slight
temp last night and today, but I...

Well, today is Day One :( by
cjra
Oh man it's hard to leave DD.
She wouldn't eat much this morning when I left her, so her last nursing
session was ~6:30am. I left 3 different types of bottles and told the
babysitter to call if she becomes hysterical. She's still got a bit of
a runny bottom but not major diarhhea, but her cold...

DD took 2 ozs from a bottle today!!!! by
cjra
Woohooo!!!!
She managed about 15 mls (1/2 oz) yesterday, which is more than usual,
and then BF'd ALL night and for 45mins straight at lunch. Today I had a
meeting so I BF'd her at 9am for 30 mins, but didn't get back as fast
as I'd hoped so the sitter tried with the bottle, and after a few
minutes...

Daycare update and iron question by
cjra
DD has been in daycare a week now and is doing ok. She's definitely
reverse cycling (ate for like 3 hours almost straight last night!) but
she is taking a bottle at daycare - no more than 1-2ozs at a time, but
enough to hold her over til I get there.
My concern though is that she may be becoming...

The PLAN How to stop the night wakings? by
cjra
Thanks to all for your helpful suggestions. After discussing various
options with DH, here's what we're going to do for at least 10 days.
Pantley claims 10 days, if at that point it's not working, we'll
reevaluate and if it looks like we're making progress, we'll try
another 10 days. If not at all,...
