Illness risk working around children during pregnancy? by Abi
Hi, I will be doing some voluntary work in a school in the 3rd trimester. Should I be worried about exposing myself to groups of young children (between 5 and 10yrs) as they could be more likely to give me illnesses such as colds, flu, etc etc? Is this a risk not worth taking? I caught mumps off...

Failed 1 Hour Glucose Test, Onto the 3 Hour! by Carol Ann
My number was 156 (whatever that means). I think normal was 140 so I don't see WHY I have to take another test. For those who've had it, what does it entail? Will I be able to drink the stuff and then just come back 3 hours later? If I do have it (what is it?) what does that mean? ~Carol Ann

"teaching your baby to read" by Shena Delian O'Brien
Anyone read this book by Dr.'s Doman? My DH was taught using this method as a child and was reading everything in the house by age 3. They couldn't stop him or nearly keep up with his appetite for books! He's the same way today and re-reads books if he runs out of new ones. He graduated high school...

Wall Street Journal Article on Doulas by Rachel
Did anyone see this article? It's in today's paper, front page. The article implies that doulas are negatively interfering with the doctor/patient relationship and that patients are, on advice of their doulas, rejecting interventions. There were some anecdotes such as a woman whose water had...

Co-Sleeper question by DeliciousTruffles
Nan wrote: I'm trying to steer dh away from wanting to buy a cutsey bassinet. I think it would be a grand waste of money for the short time the baby would be able to use it. Sooo, I'm looking at co-sleepers, Arms Reach, in particular. I've seen them mentioned in here, so I'm looking...

how to prevent embarrassing situation by toypup
Here's a problem I've never ever read in this ng. It was very embarrassing last time. I'm not sure if there's anyone IRL I'm willing to spring this on, so I'll spring it on the entire world semi-anonymously and hopefully no one reading will know who I am IRL or care. ;-) The last time, I gave...

C-section - care package for recovery - suggestions? by John
Hi all- I'm looking for some advice from some c-section veterans here - my wife and I recently found out that she will have to undergo a c-section for our second child on Tuesday, squashing any hopes of a VBAC. She didn't take the news very well, especially since her first c-section recovery did...
