Pocket money by
Welches
I thought I'd try and generate a debate or two as this group seems to have
gone fairly quiet barring the spam.
I'm going to raise a couple of senarios, that I've been in as a child or a
parent or a friend.
This one is about pocket money.
Three children, two born at the start of the academic...

How to help 1yr old deal with psych. trauma by
[email protected]
Hi Folks,
I am keen to see if someone can help me.
My 1 year old son had to go to hospital due to severe deydration from
gastro. They had to give him a drip and take blood for testing. I
stayed with him, but he was still VERY upset when they did the
procedure.
It seems that the trauma of this is...

Airplanes and inappropriate films for kids by
Jeff
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/02/automobiles/02POWER.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
Kids being able to see pictures that their parents think are
inappropriate is apparently a problem.
I would recommend that if you think this is a problem, you write your
senators and representative about this.

reading material by
Anne Rogers[_4_]
about 6 months ago there were plenty of signs that DS, then 3 3/4 would
gradually teach himself to read, which I obviously didn't discourage,
but didn't jump in and try and teach him to read. 6 months later the
same signs are there, but no real progress - which doesn't really
matter, it's still...

Rewarding good or "not bad" by
Welches
I'm coming from the view of #1, who sits still, listens and obeys (at school
anyway!!) and is at the top end of her form. Her teacher commented that she
"coasts" the academic side, and still is at the top. Certainly she produces
much better work at home than she does at school.
At various times...

Looking for quality toddler's bathrobe by
Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward
Hi,
Every time I give my toddler and baby a bath I think how nice it would
be if I didn't have to manipulate the bath towel around the squirmy
and slippery child, but instead had a bathrobe for them that was made
out of the same thick and absorbent cotton terry. It seems impossible
to find really...

Healthy Diets for children. by

What are the latest recomendations for diet for children. I remember
a few years back the "Healthy Eating Pyramid". Has this been replaced
with the healthy plate or something? I'm particurlarly interested in
what percentage of daily calorie intake should come from simple
sugars.

Do I have a right to be annoyed? by
JennP.[_3_]
The last two days here in NE have been miserable, rainy days so the
kids have been mostly in the house. This two days of rain after two
weeks of gorgeous weather. My kids are not lacking for any outdoor
play.
The sun comes out, my ds went outside for a half hour or so with some
company I had...

Situation-Question:
You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two
small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge
knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams
obscenities, raises the knife, and charges. You are carrying a

Art Supplies for 2.5 year old by
GoofeeGyrl
Baby #2 is due exactly one month today, and I am trying to stock up on some
things for Sophie (29 months in a couple of days) to have to (possibly) keep
her occupied in the first weeks when I don't have as much time to play with
her.
Mainly, I am wondering about art supplies that she can use. So...

first-time parent question by

OK, this may be a *really* silly question, but I'm a first-time mom and need
some guidance:
The weather here is getting colder, and I'm sorting through the babies'
clothes trying to figure out what to keep, what to lose, and what I'm going
to need to buy. And I find I have *oodles* of short...

Christmas decorations -- making with toddlers by
Marty Billingsley
Hi --
I'm hosting a party for a bunch of 2-year-olds (and their moms)
a week or two before Christmas. I'd like to give the kids an
opportunity to make some tree ornaments or other decorations.
Suggestions? Salt dough that the kids can paint and bake?
Chains made of colored paper? What...

Once again, as a newbie mom, I am running up against *huge* amounts of
contradictory advice about parenting. This time, it's about introducing my

reading to a book vandal by
blacksalt
Since I have no experiance raising children, I'm reading alot of books
about babies. Many encourage "reading" to even very little ones. My 11
month old wants to bend, spindle, and mutilate every book he gets near,
and as he gets stronger, he's doing more damage. How does one "read" to
a little one...
