Does my baby need iron? Am I doing the right thing? by

At his 6 month WBV (which was really at 7 months), the
doctor said I should start giving him cereal once a day
because it's a 'good source of iron'.
Well, cheerios *are* cereal g, and a good...

CTTD Object permanence by
Cheryl S.
I think Jaden has developed object permanence. Yesterday he *really*
wanted to nurse and started grabbing at my shirt, pulling the neck of it
away from me, and rubbing his face all over me trying to latch right
through the fabric. I'd say he knows the boob is still there even when
it's covered...

Drop in antibodies after 6 months? by
Cheryl S.
This link was in my BabyCenter email for this week.
http://tinyurl.com/35y5w
I was very surprised to read this in it, under the section on preventing
ear infections: "Practitioners such as Ruben believe that mothers
transfer certain immune-building antibodies to their babies through
breast milk....

Those growth charts by
Cheryl S.
Jaden had his 6-month check up two days ago. He's gone from 15 # 12 oz
at 4-months-and-10-days to 16 # 14 oz at 6 months. Until this check
he'd always been at the 75th percentile for weight, now he's 50th.
Naturally it brought comment from the nurse practitioner. (I know, I
keep saying I'll...

Another 6 month old by
Cheryl S.
Jaden turns six months old today. That seems to be a traditional time
for an update post, so here it is.
His check up is tomorrow so I'll find out then how much he weighs. I'm
guessing somewhere around 17.5 pounds, which would be a gain of 9.5 from
his birthweight. 9.5 pounds of breastmilk. ...

FAO Kari - night waking by

Kari, what do you do during Xander's long awake period at night? I'm in
the middle of one right now. It sucks.

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
for children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.

Air in frozen EBM containers by
Cheryl S.
Soon after I started having to pump on my left side, I read here to
squeeze the air out of the storage bag before sealing it to put in the
freezer. Prior to reading that I had put three small bottles and two
freezer bags (the Gerber kind) in the freezer without getting the air
out. Will the air...

Should I let left side dry up? by
Cheryl S.
DS has continued to strongly prefer my right side. This started a
little over three weeks ago. For four days, he wouldn't nurse on the
left at all. He was thoroughly checked out by the doctor at that time,
and no physical reason could be found. From there we've gotten to him
accepting the left...

OT "Let me hold the baby" by
Cheryl S.
Why do some people not take no for an answer when they want to hold your
baby? We were just at an extended family holiday party and DS was
freaked out by all the noise and strange people. I spent most of the
time we were there standing and swaying in a quiet corner soothing him.
I knew if anyone...

I'm nearly-37 weeks pregnant, and haven't received any formula samples
in the mail! Yay!! I guess it's due to not allowing any maternity
stores to put me on their mailing lists, not subscribing to any free
baby magazines, and not registering at Babies R Us (all of which I did
last time, and was...

The first six weeks by

Today DS is six weeks old - the miracle milestone where bf gets
infinitely better :-) And it is. I thought I'd post a brief recap of
the preceding six weeks for others who are still in it, or yet to
experience it.

2 month WBV report, and rant by
Cheryl S.
DS' two-month old check up was today. He is doing great. Was 8# 9oz at
two weeks, is now 13# 9oz, exactly five pounds gain in a bit over six
weeks. He also grew from 21.5 inches to 24 inches. Weight and height
are both 90th percentile. Head circumference is only between 10th-25th
percentile...

Refusing left side by
Cheryl S.
DS (2.5 months old) has refused to nurse on my left side for 12 hours
now, since 9:00 this morning. He is clearly hungry yet cries and acts
very annoyed when I offer the left side and will not latch, but then
nurses eagerly off the right side. What is going on? I've tried
football hold to no...

OT Stupid things heard at Thanksgiving - vent by
Cheryl S.
At the Thanksgiving dinner table with everyone there yesterday, my BIL
says to me, "So now that you're home all the time, what are you doing?
Watching soap operas?"
Me: "No, I've never watched a soap opera and highly doubt I ever will"
(no offense to those that do)
BIL: "Oh, are you doing any...

Starting solids.... by
Child
We arent' planning on anything but EBM until 6 months, but starting to
formulate my philosophy on this. Suspect doctor will encourage us to start
with rice cereal, but know that many of you smart people think food is
better. I obviously understand the reasoning behind adding a single food at

First solids! by
Child
The Monk had his very first solids (at 5 months, 2 weeks and day) over the
weekend - fresh steamed butternut squash mashed to a pulp. He made a
terrible face on the first bite but easily moved the food to the back of the
mouth, swallowed and opened for more. He does his "eaty eaty" sign...
