what to do when your kid hurts another by toypup[_2_]
DS is 7 yo and he kicked his 5 yo friend who was visiting in our house. I was mortified. DS knows better to hit, and this child is so much smaller than he and for no real reason (he claims the other child made him drop his crackers). I immediately made him apologize and sent DS to his room...

Daylight savings and Halloween by Cathy Kearns
I'm thinking leaving daylight savings for Halloween isn't working too well. I just answered the door to a very tired darth vader. It seems even the tiny tots wait until dark, and when dark is 7pm, well, by 7:30 bedtime they've only hit a few houses. So I was wondering, how did moving the...

online gift cards by Anne Rogers[_4_]
My gran has asked if there is anywhere online she can deposit money, so that we can then choose some gifts for the kids. I'm guessing that the only mechanism for doing something like this would be to purchase a gift card to an online store, which is something we're unfamiliar with, can you do...

Organic milk / hormone free milk by [email protected]
I buy organic milk because I don't like the idea of hormone-fed cows. However now I see in the stores that some of the regular "non-organic" milk marked as "no hormones". Does anyone know what the difference is between these two categories? We don't use other organic foods; just milk. Thanks.

Shoes and women are two combination of style and fashion. They are always be together in happy and sad. That's why never leave women in shoes store, they might buy any shoes they see. Eventhough, there are some women who are fussy about their shoes, and unsatisfied with shoes they have. There are...

flapping hands by Beliavsky
My 4yr9mo son often flaps his hands when he is excited. Although flapping hands is a symptom of autism, we don't think he is autistic, since he does not exhibit other symptoms. We would like the reduce the frequency of his hand flapping over time. Any suggestions?

Eek - a mouse! by Irene
Alas, Banty isn't the only one with a mouse problem right now. We have a small mouse invasion in our basement, which not only is giving me the creeps, I'm getting worried both about the damage and germs. (Thank goodness we have conduit so I'm not worried about the wiring.) Anyhow, what's the...

vegetarian protein sources for toddler by ted
My 20 month old doesn't eat much. Her main source of food is dairy. Other than that and legumes, are there any "fun" sources of protein that I can make her eat? We eat vegetarian diet so there's less choice there. Can I give her peanut butter etc since we don't have nut allergy in the family? I...

Getting it together in the morning by Tracy L. Cramer
I started working a full time job a few months ago and mornings have become a major issue. I really need to be out of the house by 7:30 in order to take DD#2 to daycare and then get to work by 8 a.m. This is totally not happening. None of the kids are morning people, but this is getting...

Homework revisited by Cathy Kearns
This might be a long shot, but my daughter's are five years apart. Often the younger one finds it cool to do homework with the older one, and ask the older one for help. However, she's not happy asking me for help. What if your older daughter played spelling with her? "Sue"...

Why did Frodo die in ROTK? by Mike R.
Jackson is ruining the adaptation of the book. I just got back from a screening, and instead of Smeago'l cutting off Frodo's finger and falling into Mount DOOM, they roll around and fight, both falling into Mount DOOM. At least he had the good sense to keep the Scouring in the movie. Rivendell has...

Lower case letters by P. Tierney
When is it best to start pointing out and teaching lower case letters? By age, skill or understanding level, or whatever. My only concern is trying to avoid confusion -- why there is both a "B" and a "b" for one letter, for example, and introducing something that could cause a setback. So what...

co-sleeping... again?! by Chris Scaife
DS complained that mummy smokes cigarettes in bed. While I thought it an irresponsible fire risk I did't feel in a position to confront my ex on the issue... so I asked what the problem was. Apparently she smokes them in *his* bed and he has asthma. He is eight years old and she sleeps with...

I am truly grateful for my wonderful, very gifted, talented 12-year-old son. He is full of intellectual curiosity, wants to learn and try everything, etc. The bad news...I don't have 48 hours in the day to devote to his interests and questions, and he NEVER lets up!!! If he is interested in a...

No! No no no! No! (toothbrushing and toddlers) by Sara
My 17-month-old son _hates_ to brush his teeth. We've tried letting him do it, our doing it, letting him brush our teeth, normal toothbrushes, baby toothbrushes, electric toothbrushes... He hates it all. The only way we could possibly do it would be for one of us to hold his arms and the other to...
