toddler academics by
[email protected]
My toddler's (3yo's) teacher at her montessori told me not to teach her
anything academic at home meaning alpabets (even the phonetics) and
numbers. She said kids that do academics at home come to school and
want to play all day. They don't want to do academic work at school in
addition to at home....

Car commute with kids by
[email protected]
What do you listen to when you commute with kids? I have an hour and
half total commute everyday with the kids in the car. I listen to the
typical lite rock radio stations that are reasonably ok with what they
say and what songs they play. Sometimes they casually say things I
don't want the kids...

Should I use bottled baby water to make formula, to avoid dental fluorosis? by
Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward
I have a 4-week old who is exclusively formula-fed. I've just learnt
that infants up to six months should ideally not consume any fluoride
in order to avoid fluorosis. We've been using Brita-filtered water to
make up his formula until now, and occasionally Poland Spring bottled
water. I can't...

potentially found a car by
Anne Rogers[_2_]
well it's taken time, but VW are buying back our car under the lemon law and
it goes back lunchtime on Monday.
Rather oddly, a friend has been unable to sell a car for no apparent reason,
we didn't even know for months, but it came up in conversation when she
didn't know we were returning ours...

new rotavirus vaccine? Anyone had their child vaccinated? by
don_tspamme
Hi, I'm trying to decide whether to have my daughter immunized with
the new (as opposed to the old, problematic one) vaccine. I've spoken
to two different pediatricians about it, and they both feel its safe.
Has anyone had their child vaccinated? On the one hand, I'm wary
because its only been out...

Biological Mom Abducted Baby, Feds Say by

Why can't parents who put up a child for adoption change their
mind within a few weeks?
People who adopt can change their mind can't they?

Am I being paranoid? by
Psalm Nuclei
My wife and I (we both work 9 to 5 jobs) are lucky to have someone
that is able to care for our child during the day, a very good friend
that we have known for years. She's about to hit 50, never had a child
of her own, and taking care of a 6 month old is tough for one person.
So here are my...

My nine year old is going to have her tonsils out in a few weeks. Anyone
have any advise to make this less traumatic. Anything you wish someone had
told you or warned you about.
Thanks,

Boys entering puberty by
Wendy
Okay, this came up in another thread but I think we can separate the
two: how did you handle your son's first wet dreams? (And what age was
this?)
Someone else suggested their sons do their own laundry so they never knew,
but that leads me to a different question: do your sons ever get an...

Should I put my 3 year old back in diapers? by
Jaime
I just had my fourth baby a little more than a month ago. The other
three, youngest to oldest are 13 months old, two years old and three
years and two months old. The oldest, Sarah, was potty trained about
six months ago and had been doing really well until Rachel first came
home. With Rachel...

Vent: Getting rid of outgrown clothing by
chiam margalit
I know this seems petty, but it's driving me nuts. I am desperately
trying to get rid of 5 years of outgrown kids clothing. One would
think this would be an easy task, but where I live there really aren't
resale shops that take larger sizes (most focus only on babies stuff,
which is long long...

Food allergy ideas? by

Anyone have suggestions for store bought snacks
for three to five year olds that are dairy free, wheat
free and peanut free. We don't allow home cooked
things in the school due to the licensing restrictions
(too bad, but that is the way the Illinois laws are
nowadays).
Believe it or not, I have...

Reading to a one year old by
jojo
Hi,
My DS is 13 months.
Until he was 12 months old I read to him sporadically, usually once per day,
but sometimes skipping
a day.
About the time he turned one I realized that I could be shortchanging him by
not reading to him every day,
so to make it easier I have incorporated it into his bedtime...

POLL: Crazy things your toddler sleeps with? by

I keep wondering if my child is the only toddler on earth who sleeps
with not one but two rubber duckies. That also led me to wonder what
goofy things other kids sleep with! DS also sleeps with a teddy bear,
fwiw. But last night, I had to go search for "big ducky" since he had

question for medical professionals about feet by

OK, this is stupid, but I really am curious about what those of you on
"the human side" think of this, because I think it's absurd but what do I
know about people's feet?
At our local Gymboree Play and Music center, staff encourages the children
(age 0-4 years) to run barefoot on the mats and...
