incessant chattering by
[email protected]
My toddler (2.5 yo) asks questions a lot. Most of those is kinda
re-stating the obvious. When we are driving in a car, taking a walk,
pretty much any time we're outside or at home, she's constantly asking
questions.. Sometimes she asks same question repeatedly even if you
answer it the first time...

fleas....ugh :-( by
Nan
We've discovered our indoor-only cat has fleas. I have no idea how
she got them, and I guess that isn't important. I did notice a stray
male outside and I have no doubt he's infested, but she hasn't been
outside.
Anyway, we're on a mission to eradicate the fleas and I'm looking for
suggestions. ...

Leapster? by
P. Tierney
Does anyone have this product? Is it any good? Is it
different (for better or worse) than the Pad? With weekend
sales starting, I was looking at both.
OTOH, one side of me does wonder if it's good that
(seemingly) everything has a "learning" component. I noticed
on the Leapster a Frogger-like...

Holiday shopping for kids - help needed by
Mike S.
My aunt has asked me to help her buy Christmas presents for her
grandkids. We have no idea what to get them as she hasn't and probably
won't ask for a list. I haven't seen the kids in years and my aunt only
sees them once (maybe twice) a year so we have no idea what their
current interests...

keeping the baby warm at night by
[email protected]
Baby's room has a big window that faces the street. This room is
usually a bit colder than the other bedroom. I put her PJ's on, close
the window and blinds and turn the fan to the lowest speed just for the
white noise. Still she wakes up in the middle of the night. Since she's
only 14 months old...

My son, the terrorist by
Chookie
Verbatim (verscriptim?) from a note home from day care today.
'Also, was making ATOM BOMBS and TRAIN BOMBS with the blocks today,
would you be able to talk to him about this.'
Talking to him so long after the event seems to be the world's least effective
method to me! And I'm pretty sure he's...

FAO Ericka Krammer by
Sue
Or anyone that has been through this. TIA.
Hi Ericka,
We are going through the process of having Kara (DD3) tested formally
through the school for any hidden learning disabilities. I have went through
this with my oldest daughter, so I kind of remember what was involved, but
it has been a while....

"Avery" for a boy? by
[email protected]
We're thinking about "Avery" for our boy due in May. He'll be our 2nd;
our 1st is Eric. Eric will be about 2.5 years when our 2nd is born.
I see that although Avery was once more popular as a boy's name than as
a girl's name (USA Social Security data), its popularity as a girl's
name has surged...

obnoxious kids in public: part deux by

Remember the thread about the Chicago restauranteur who took hell for
asking his patrons to control their children (via a nice little sign
asking them to "behave" and use "inside voices")? Here's the
follow-up: A parent who actually "gets...

Seeing the forest through the trees by

Okay, you know when you're in the thick of something and you feel as if
it's so thick that you are incapable of being creative? Well, here
goes.
My dd 11 is in a bad habit of putting her stick of lip gloss or
chapstick or whatever it is, in her jeans pocket. Can I tell you how
many tubes I have...

Do you still carry your older children? by
[email protected]
I'm just curious to here your thoughts on this. I carry my 7 year old
son to bed almost every night. Thankfully, he's small enough (he only
weighs about 45-50 pounds) so he isn't too heavy to hold yet. This has
just always been a nightly routine that my son and I have enjoyed for
years. I just...

what should a parent expect by
apple
I have a seven year old who had taken a book out of the library. It
was on the human body, one of the pictures it contained was of a baby
suckling. He showed it to two of his friends on the bus all three
decided that it was yucky and gross. My son said to one of his friends
that it would be...

reading by
Stephanie
DS (5) has shown an interest in reading. He can sound out very simple words,
but I don't really know where to go from here. Does anyone have book
recommendations or does anyone know anything about hooked on phonics, except
that it's expensive?
Thanks.
