Drawing/Writing question by
P. Tierney
Is it generally advisable, when a child is in the early stages of
drawing, to teach or model what might be a proper way to hold a
pen/pencil/crayon? Or, is this something that they generally
figure out for themselves, making it best just to let them be? Thx.

An Update on the Great Toy Takeover by
Circe
About a month ago, I posted about being overrun with kids' toys and feeling
like I couldn't get rid of much.
Well, this weekend, I went through all the toys and got rid of three
kitchen-sized trash bags full of stuff. You all would have been proud of me,
I'm sure. It was *very* cathartic! We still...

Allergy or something else? by
Iowacookiemom
A few nights ago Henry (11 yo) was studying spelling with my husband. He was
having a harder time than usual with it. Out of nowhere, he began removing
most of his clothing, saying that he was very hot. Then he began vigorously
scratching himself all over his body, saying he itched. He became...

Usefulness of IQ tests by
John P
Hello
I'm new to Newsgroups but what I've seen so far is pretty impressive.
Just a comment on the validity or otherwisew of IQ tests.
As other contributors have stated, IQ tests are not necessarily an
indicator of future success. But they are useful in that they can
give some idea of a person's...

Hello, I have a year and a half old son. I still nurse him, he sleeps
in bed with us, never had trouble sleeping at night for at least 7
hours. But recently, he's been waking up every three hours, and stays
up for about 2 hours, then only is ready to go back to sleep.
Fortunately, I'm a...

Thanks for all the advice, glad to know it may just be a matter of
time.
I'll try the straw-rubbermaid type, she seems to do much better using
a straw for not.

Advice needed pls. 1yr old still chokes using sippy cups by
Idas
Hello,
I have been giving my 1 year old a sippy cup since she was 6 months
old. She doesn't mind it but after a few sips, she still chokes and
coughs. It doesn't discourage her but sure makes it impossible to
wean her off her milk bottles. I want her to use cups exclusively but
I can't risk it...

Review: Don't Put Lipstick on the Cat! by

Hi,
If you enjoy parenting humor, I suggest checking out “Don’t Put Lipstick on the Cat!” by Debbie Farmer. I’m a mother of two (an 8-year-old and a 3-year-old) and I read Debbie’s newspaper column “Family Daze” weekly in my local paper and I just got her book and it’s hilarious so I wanted to...
