Help please: diaper rash :( by
agent99
DS#2, aged almost 6 months, has a diaper rash. A big nasty red rash all
over his cheeks, radiating out from the anus. It's clearly very sore,
and he's been spending lots of time with a bare bum, thick unscented
zinc cream on his bum, and very frequent diaper changes (disposable, so
should "wick...

Gyn recommends backup with IUD? by
agent99
Well, my first IUD lasted till 2 weeks after my first post-partum AF -
five months after I had it put in. It wandered out of position, and I
was experiencing signs of infection. We've moved, so I went to a
different ob/gyn than the one who put the IUD in. The new one tells me
that the strings were...

Tips to decrease nighttime nursing? by
[email protected]
Breastfeeding is going well. My 5 wk. old daughter is 11 lb. 4 oz.
We've managed to stave off some problems before they started (e.g.
thrush and sore nipples). Now that I'm feeling confident with that,
I'm ready to start thinking about getting more sleep. However, I of
course don't want to...

new with a question by
AJZZZMOMMY
Hello, I have a 15 week old baby girl that was born 4 and half weeks early. She
was born weighing at 6.15 lbs and 18 inch long, she had to stay in the hospital
for 4 days with rapid breathing and wet lungs, we are nursing great! She is now
13 pounds and 24 inches long. Is that a good weight gain...

Scalding EBM by
Akuvikate
It seems that we may have finally figured out the bottle problem (in
that the Bug was very inconsistent about taking them, and increasingly
refused altogether). We've had more success with a fast-flow nipple
and with pumped milk that I've scalded. Though some babies may not
object to the soapy...

Yet another "ready for solids?" by
Akuvikate
I know people post questions like this all the time, but...
The plan is to start Bug on solids at 6 months, which will happen in 3
and a half weeks. However I'm really beginning to wonder if it may
not make sense to start a bit sooner. Why I wonder:
1. I gave her a index card to gum and drool...

pancreatic enzymes in colitis? by
Akuvikate
Anyone know of any research on giving mom pancreatic enzymes to help
babies with bloody stools despite mom attempting an elimination diet?
I found one study from 1999 in the Journal of Pediatric
Gastroenterology & Nutrition but it had a whopping 4 patients and is
nearly 10 years old. It would seem...

OT - changing sleep arrangements by
Akuvikate
The Bug is now co-sleeping with us full time on my side of the bed and
pretty much has to be glued against my body all night long. She falls
asleep by coming to bed with me -- if she falls asleep after 8pm but
before I go to bed, I put her in the co-sleeper and she invariably
wakes up within an...

Bug's first mush by
Akuvikate
Well, Bug had her first goop yesterday over at Babu and Grampa's house
for Thanksgiving. She's now made of both mommy and Lundberg family
farms rice. We gave her rice cereal and EBM out of my baby bowl. The
expression on her face with the first bite was priceless -- "What the
HELL?!?!?". But...

Scientific evidence for breastfeeding by
Akuvikate
I started this in the the thread about the US PSA being changed
because of pressure from the formula companies, but since it's kind of
long and off-topic thought it made more sense to start a new thread.
Not that anyone asked :-), but IMO the only gold-standard scientific
evidence about the...

Bug pictures by
Akuvikate
Just had to join in the parade of 6-month-old picture postings. I've
never posted photos online before, so not sure it'll work but here
goes. The first picture's a month or two old but I like it so I'm
posting it anyway. The second is Bug's first adventure with prunes
and the third is her...

Exclusive BF is so awesome by
Akuvikate
So far in the Bug's 4 and a half months on Earth, aside from mum milk
she's had nothing but a few doses of tylenol and mylicon, and perhaps
a bit of bathwater here and there. Last night as she was nursing off
to sleep I looked at her and realized that every molecule of this
little human being --...
