Woohoo! She's gained weight! by
cjra
That means the BF'ing is working :).
I had been a bit paranoid about that, and was holding my breath til DD
was weighed today, but she's putting it on at a normal rate! She's
still not at her birthweight (2.5 oz under, 3weeks old today), but
that's to be expected given the circumstances. Pedi was...

Nursing and flying by
cjra
So everyone says to nurse during take off and landing, but how the heck
do you get a kid to nurse who doesn't want to???
DD is an experienced traveller now - a total of 8 flight segments (2
trips). The first trip at 9-11 weeks she was great. She slept most of
the time, even tho she didn't really...

From "Machine a caca" to Constipation by
cjra
That was DH's name for DD until this week.... What's the range for how
long it's ok for an infant to go without a bowel movement? I know it's
pretty normal but can't recall for how long or what I should do if it
persists.
4.5 month old DD's poops until Monday were normal as can be. In fact, I
was...

I know it's not about getting a gold medal or anything.... by
cjra
so why does it bug me so much when people disparage, or at least
dismiss my efforts?
I really don't *need* a pat on the back (tho the occassional one is
definitely nice!), but what gets me is the person who says "I had low
supply so was forced to supplement and he's now on formula.I didn't
have an...

She refuses to nap! by
CJRA
Not really a BF issue, but figured I'd post here anyway...
DD is 7 months old on Saturday. She's never been a great napper for
me, altho when smaller at least she'd sleep ON me. She no longer does
that. Still, we usually manage a 30 min or one hour nap at least each
weekend day (she's at...

Ameda Purely Yours Pump? by
CJRA
Or maybe it's me.
Of course this is the week I'm trying to pump extra to make sure I
have enough when I leave DD for 2.5 days next week.
I've been using this since Sept 25, and it's been great until the last
couple of weeks. One problem is that the suction on one side is too
strong -it makes the...

What finger foods to start? by
cjra
I'm terrified of DD choking....she's 7.5 months now, has one tooth.
She doesn't quite have the pincer grasp, altho she's getting there.
She's not too thrilled with the pureeed solids. well, some days she
is, others not at all. She definitely likes picking at our plates. So
suggestion was made to...

Encouraging without being a BF Nazi.... by
cjra
Do you find there's a fine line? Or maybe I'm just being extra
sensitive.
I have a friend who was due early April. She told me at her shower she
wanted to try to BF. Though no one in either of their families had
done so, which made her a bit nervous, but generally they were
supportive (at least...

Supply issues? by
cjra
Maybe. maybe not.
After 12 weeks my supply was regulating and I wasn't leaking much. Now
DD is reverse cycling and it's all over the place. She seems to be
getting enough, but I noticed I'm pumping very little. Initially, in
the first month when I was using a hospital pump, I'd generally get...

Ah, the joy of BF in Europe by

At least in Switzerland where I am now - I can BF anywhere and no one
even bats an eyelash, in fact I have FIL gazing lovingly saying what a
beautiful natural thing it is and how happy he is to see his new
granddaughter nourished so....

Green poop? by
cjra
Is this normal?
DD started off with yellow grainy poops in her first week of mostly
breastmilk (at about 14 days old). Then it went to yellow mucousy poop.
And now she's been having green mucousy poop. I thought yellow was
normal, but is green ok too? I read somewhere, and now can't find
where,...

Paranoid new mom question #4521 - now sleeping too much? by
cjra
We'll get this all worked out soon.
Since Sunday, DD has been feeding like a maniac. Yesterday she slept 2
1hr stretches, and a few 10-15 minute naps throughout the day.
Otherwise, she was feeding. Plenty of wet diapers and poops were either
green or yellow - equal # of both.
She fed last night...

green poop update and a caffeine question by
cjra
A is 4 weeks today!
She's still doing her nursing marathons. The nights and mornings are
reasonable (every 2 hrs or so in the morning, overnight she'll go 4
hrs), but by the late afternoon she nurses non-stop until 10/11pm or
so. She'll take some breaks for 10-15 mins, maybe one 45 min break,...

Well, I guess the breastfeeding is going ok afterall by
cjra
DD gained more than a pound in the past week!!!
She's been feeding like a maniac. I've been paranoid about her being
dehydrated, or maybe not getting enough because she's basically on the
breast the better part of 6-8 hrs in the afternoon/evenings. But doc
says she looks healthy as can be, and...

Normal or not? Acne+rash, fussiness, screaming, sleeplessness, etc by
cjra
I've looked on kellymom.com which has been useful, but everything is
either normal or a sign of a problem.
My 6wk old next Monday daughter got baby acne last week. Normal. But
now it looks more like a big rash across her face. very red. It's also
spread to her neck, ears, head, and upper chest....

DD is 7 weeks today and doing great (still some rash, but otherwise
ok). We've got 5 weeks til daycare....
She adamantly refuses a bottle. Any tips other than patience and
persistence? DH gives it and I leave the room. We've tried a couple of
different nipples. Now, she was never good with the...

another thing - white milky discharge and anal rash? by
cjra
Thanks to all for humouring me through my many paranoid new mom
questions. Here's another -
first, most of DDs other 'symptoms' have subsided. She still has the
face/neck rash but it's gone way down. She's eating well, fussing less,
etc. So I'm inclined to think there's no regular food intolerance...

DD only naps on my chest! by
cjra
DD is 8 weeks now and doing great. BF seems to be going well, any food
allergy issues have been overcome (ie don't think she has any), she now
weighs 10lbs 8oz.
She sleeps ok at night, we've finally managed to swaddle her and that's
helped a lot with her early morning thrashing. But napping is...

She's soooo constipated! by

Poor DD. I was about to call the doctor as she wasn't eating solids
much (tho nursing fine), but this weekend she finally started eating
more again.
In the past I've given her prunes or prune juice when she appears to
be a bit stopped up, but it's not been often. However, the past 2 weeks
have...
