I too hate early release days to the kids. However now they have come
up with another diddy; Late arrival.....they schedule school to start
1 hour late one day a week ...... why? The teachers need some time to
themselves.

Book rec for adoptive mom? by
Irene
As I have mentioned briefly in passing, an acquaintance of mine
recently adopted a baby. I saw her over the weekend, and we got to
talking. One of her comments was that What to Expect the First Year
had nothing about adoption, other than a small discussion of inducing
(or whatever the term whould...

detention...you be the judge by
chiam margalit
At my kid's school, there are a very limited number of subs, so
whenever a teacher is out, Dr G, the dreaded old man substitute is
called in. All last year DS moaned and groaned about Dr G, but I
figured he just hated to have a sub. This year DD is bitching about
him as well. And, as I'm finding...

The Great Toy Takeover by
Circe
As we approach another Christmas, I look around at the huge toy collection
and despair. At this rate, we will need to build an addition to the house
for the toys to live in!
It's not that I don't go through and try "thin" on a regular basis--I do. I
can generally get rid of a grocery bag or two...

Toddler fears / parental exhaustion by
Cheryl S.
Julie (2 years, 7 months) has suddenly become afraid of ghosts and owls.
We're not even sure how she knows what a ghost is. Must have been from
halloween. Anyway, she was up last night crying and afraid. It took a
while to even determine what the problem was. Once I knew, I basically
alternated...

CTTS: early geometry lesson! by
Hillary Israeli
I was videotaping the kids having breakfast today because they were being
especially cute. 38 month old Jacob says to me "mommy, why are you in the
family room?" and I said "because I want to get a better camera angle than
I can in the kitchen." He said "you're taking a picture of my ankle?" and
I...

providing entertainment for baby? by
chris
Hi all,
So I have this 4.5 week old. Now what do I do
with it? LOL!
I'm wondering if I'm providing enough interesting
simulation for him and is it so bad to let him
just hang out starting into space? I don't have
a huge toy collection for him so I wonder if I
should get more interesting things...

infant decongesants by
Marie
The kidlets are successfully weathering their first colds. Hardest hit has
been Alex, who has spent most of this week sleeping in his swing because
whenever he lies down gunk from his sinuses has been draining into his
throat. During the worst of it, so much fluid would drain that we'd hear
him...

Teaching Kids about Finance by
Laura
All too often parents and teachers do not have a good grasp of
financial principals themselves and so it can be very difficult for
them to break down and teach these principals to children. In order
to improve my ability to teach these ideas to children I am looking
for advice on how to teach...

Hi,
I'm looking for a particular kind of party favor and was wondering if
anyone could tell me what it's called so that I can call stores around
here to see if they have it.
It's hard to describe exactly what it is: it consists of two small
popsicle stick type things with paper between them. The...

Texas Schools Felony Fraud numbers of dropouts by
Greg Hanson
Did you see the TV story Oct 17 about the ""model"" schools
in Texas getting high marks through fraudulent reports
of dropouts? And the coverups throughout management?
The guy who exposed it from a few levels down had to
go to the media before it exploded.
They were purposefully omitting names...

OT- for Americans - found this of interest (x-posted) by

I found this in the course of research about someone who
cited this from an email which claimed that Michael Newdow
who is fighting to have the pledge thrown out of his child's
school presented it to the court or in some of his public
interviews. I think it would be a much better pledge, though

NEW RESEARCH INTO A CURE FOR DOWNS SYNDROME by
Harvey Twyman
A recent "Short News Feed" on "UK Media Channels" mentioned new research.
However there seems to be "No Information" on the Internet about it that I can find.
A "Person" and a "Statement" was mentioned.
The Person:
Someone called MOWBY - Doctor Mowby?
