pacifiers: yay or nay? by Irrational Number
My mother does not like that sometimes we use a pacifier with Pillbug. She says that his mouth will grow funny. I'd never heard this before and my husband says that the book says that's not true. Still, what are the pros and cons of a pacifier? Thanks, Anita

feel bad for being overzealous by Irrational Number
I sort of reamed into a coworker today because she brought up the fact AGAIN that she could not BF her daughter because she did not have enough milk. Her daughter is 7, so it's a bit late now... She told me before that she did not like BF because it was "messy", she leaked a lot. Then today she...

clearing up eczema seems to help sleep... by Irrational Number
Pillbug's eczema is now cleared up and I'm on a strict no-dairy diet and he's using no soap in his bath. Amazingly, this has helped his sleep! He basically sleeps from 7:30 pm to 5:30 am. Before, though, he was waking up every TWO HOURS to nurse, so I was being slowly destroyed over the months.

Banana-bug by Irrational Number
(Sorry, Phoebe, to steal thread title from you. I've no imagination!) Today is Pillbug's 6-month birthday and BOY, was I excited! DH got the video cam ready on the tripod, I had fully charged batteries in the camera. It was actually a lot of fun. We fed him in-between nursings, as in I nursed...

He ate the pear! by Irrational Number
Today we tried mushed-up pear with NO ebm and I think Pillbug liked it! DH was feeding him and there was a LOT more that went in than came back out. ;) (Maybe DH makes better airplane noises than I do...) -- Anita -- Happy to be on vacation for the next 2 weeks so NO PUMPING (unless engorged in...

upset at nanny -- vent by Irrational Number
Hello ladies, I'm unlurking to vent about my nanny. I got the stomach flu Monday night, so I stayed home Tuesday and Wednesday. So, in one of our casual conversations, the nanny told me that when she's taking a snack break, Pillbug mouthes so excitedly that she GIVES HIM A BIT OF WHEAT BREAD! I...

CTTD: signing "more" by Irrational Number
Rocky, 13 months, apparently has been picking up on Pillbug's therapy. I was nursing him to sleep tonight and I thought he was done, so I pulled up the flap. He looked at me and signed "more". -- Anita --

bad experience NIP by Irrational Number
You'd think I'd be used to it... Rocky is 2yo. I nursed him in the waiting room at his speech therapy center. A couple of women said, wow, you still have milk? And that was fine. BUT, this one woman started talking to me in Chinese. She said, "how old is he?" I said "two". She said, "OOh,...

eczema, again by Irrational Number
I've cut out the dairy (except I didn't realize that apple pie crust contained it, so I stopped that today), but after Pillbug's bath tonight, he got completely red all over his body. I think it's caused by the bath soap that we'd been using all along, but how come he's suddenly allergic to...

NIP not a problem by Irrational Number
Pillbug (11 weeks) has been on two long trips now within a month, from northern California to southern California and back twice. Each time, we've had to stop about every 1.5 hours to nurse for half an hour or more. I worried a bit at first, 'cause I'm really into staying in my own bubble at...

pumping for work by Irrational Number
We've determined that Pillbug drinks 20 oz. during the day, so that's what I need to pump daily. I can usually get 3-4 oz. per 8-minute session. If I go to 10 minutes, not much more comes out. That means I need 5 to 6 pumping sessions per day. My friends, and the websites and books, say...

Pumping and growth spurts by Irrational Number
I'm worried about what happens when Pillbug hits a growth spurt and I'm pumping. As I understand it, he nurses lots and lots to get more milk, then he gets more milk, then he sleeps to grow. Now, if he drinks lots and lots of EBM in those first couple of days that he's really only supposed to be...

Questions by Irrational Number
Bubeebubee wrote: If I ask my baby sitter to re-heat the breast milk by soaking the bottle in hot water, would it hurt the nutrients and other good ingredients in my milk. This is exactly what I do. I tell the nanny to always have one bottle soaking ready. When she uses that one, put...

good pumping at work by Irrational Number
I've been pumping for two full weeks now and it's going very well. I pump 5 times during the work day for about 8 minutes each time. I've tried longer, but I only get dribbles (if anything) after the initial 8 minutes. I get between 19 and 24 oz with this schedule, and since Pillbug eats 16-17...

Pillbug's 4-month WBV by Irrational Number
Pillbug (June 11) weighs 19 pounds and is 27 inches (which is what a nominal eight-month-old would be...). The doctor recommended starting solids, but when I said I'd like to wait 'til 6 months, he was fine with that. We're going to give him vitamin D, iron, and fluoride drops. He has mild...

faster-flow nipples? by Irrational Number
Pillbug has been using size 0 (newborn, slowest) Avent nipples when the nanny gives him bottled EBM. Is there any reason for him to go up to a faster-flowing nipple? He's now almost 5 months and he's nursing very quickly with me, 10 minutes maximum on both sides. There is no nipple confusion nor...

weaning party tonight... by Irrational Number
Rocky has not nursed for 2 weeks now, so I think he's really weaned. He did nurse once in the previous week. He's now 2 years 9 months, so we went beyond the 18 months I'd originally thought! We went to Cheesecake Factory to celebrate. ;) -- Anita --
