I feel like a genius! by V.
I was all set to write another "help me!" post because Madi is just not taking to the bottle well and I start work in a couple weeks. We've tried different brands of nipples, different people giving her the bottle, using the car seat, etc. She would either just gnaw on the nipple and some...

need source for breast milk storage bags by V.
Well, my little Madi (10wks) has started daycare and despite the fact that she generally refused to take a bottle from me or my husband (but would take one from my mom when I was away), she's doing great with the bottle at daycare! Although, she will only take it from the head infant teacher...

infant vitamin supplements by V.
At our 2 month checkup, the pediatrician recommended that we start giving her a multivitamin. Actually, she recommended vitamin D supplementation b/c we live in Maine, don't go outdoors right now unless completely bundled, and Madi is quite fair skinned. She also said that she recommends giving...

ambien, melatonin or valerian? (also, hypnosis) by V.
I'm taking a poll. :) Seriously, I'm a lifelong insomniac and although I experienced a temporary "cure" through new mom exhaustion I'm having trouble again. Curse of the baby who sleeps well, I guess. *duck* I do coping skills/relaxation, etc., but it's to the point that I need some extra...

supplementing pm feed with EBM by V.
Madi (5.5wks) nurses almost constantly all evening, which I understand is normal. However, she seems to get little milk from this (no audible swallowing sounds, no "milk stupor"). I figure this is b/c of both her constant nursing and evening slowdown of production. Due to soreness, etc before...

5wks...better, but more questions! (pumping and child care) by V.
So, Madi is now 5 wks old, and you were all right....we are "over the hump" and bfing has gotten much better. Thanks to all that replied with help on the latch issue. It's still not perfect, but better. I found that I needed to pay more attention to angles....the angle of my nipple in her mouth,...

how to get her to open her mouth? by V.
Well, I'm feeling much better! My nipple soreness is no longer "grit your teeth and whimper", but more like rubbing a bruise. Also, Miss Madeline had gained a pound over her birthweight at our 2 wk Dr appt!! So, I'm sure she's getting plenty of BM. Although the LC and nurses at the hospital said...

thanks! and more newbie questions... by V.
Thanks for all the advice earlier! Makes me feel better that things seem normal so far! We do nurse to sleep almost exclusively, although sometimes she will nurse, sleep for 15 min or so, then have the cute "awake" period. At the end of that she either nurses to sleep again or falls asleep on her...

newbie questions by V.
I had my baby! Madeline Gale (Madi) was born 11/29, 6lbs14oz! Nursing is going well so far. She seems to have read the same books I did b/c even the difficulties have been typical and solved readily by stuff I learned here! Sore-ish nipples still, but I think it's just reg. "breaking in" type...

Breastfeeding lowers risk of mother developing diabetes by V.
Here's an msnbc article about a JAMA article stating that women who breastfeed for a year have a 15% lower risk of developing type II diabetes later. Each additional year of breastfeeding lowers the risk by 15%. Interesting! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10154836/

problems...long (?pump resistance and ?thrush) by V.
Well, my little Monkey is almost 5 months old and after some initial typical problems (thanks for all the help!), bfing has been going great! Until now that is... I started work when she was 12 wks old and at first was pumping an easy 8-10oz in the am, another 6-8 in late morning, and another 6...

baby carrier for gardening? by V.
I'm posting here instead of the babywearer.com forum b/c I remember to read this group and that's about it. :) I have made several ring slings, wraps and a Mei Tai. I also have two structure soft carriers (infantino and one with Pooh on it). I tried all of these yesterday trying to get my 5month...

"bad" milk causing vomiting? by V.
My 5 month old had an episode of violent vomiting at daycare yesterday. They said she ate normally, took a nap and when the caregiver picked her up she vomited three times in rapid succession, and it sounds like it might have been projectile vomiting. She came home, took an extra long nap (45 min...

fussy baby at the breast? by V.
I'm sure there are tons of possible explanations for this behavior, but I just need some reassurance that it's probably not a low supply issue and some ideas of what it could be. :) My 15wk old if directly breastfed when at home, and bottle fed EBM at daycare. The past few days she has been...

Triggering colostrums and milk flow by username
I'm embarrassed to ask this, and I'm glad that no one can see me blushing, but will my husband's propensity to suckle my breasts stimulate early milk and offset Mother Nature's time clock? I'm in my eighth month and I'm worried that his sucking (Coitus is against doctor's orders) is...

Question about baby poops... by Usenet Fan
I posted recently about green poops. I called the ped about it and they asked me if it was diarrhea. This may be a naive question, but since breastmilk stool is so loose anyway, how is diarrhea different? BTW, the ped thinks DS is just processing a virus, and told us to check in again next week....

Stocking Up Before Returning to Work by Usenet Fan
I have to return to work the first week of May. I'll be able to pump once I return. It's a pretty flexible environment and they provide a nice room for pumping. I know I should have a decent supply stocked up and frozen for DS when I do go back to work. He eats just about every 3 hours like...

Thrush treatment and pain relief by Usenet Fan
I'm two days into Nystatin treatment for thrush. DS wasn't showing any symptoms at his checkup, but at my six week checkup, I told the midwife about my shooting nipple pain and she said that it was likely thrush. So we're both being treated (I have cream, he has oral liquid). Assuming it is...
