preschool snacks by
Karen G
I made it through preschool orientation today. Yay!! Daughter #1 took
off and didn't even wonder where I went when the parent meeting started.

in, they know about her minor allergies. Now we just have to get
started on...

Displeased with son's friend choices by
Nevermind
I guess this is an age-old problem. Here's our version of it: My 8 YO
loves "trouble". He is extremely bright and curious and has always
sought knowledge of all kinds, including and especially that of the
forbidden sort. He is utterly fascinated by sex, curses, and the like.
He has just started...

Kids and NFL games by
Hillary Israeli
I have a question about kids and sporting events. At what age do you all
think it appropriate to bring a kid to an NFL game? (that's National
Football League for those of you who may not be aware). I know that at
various concerts and sporting events I often see small children and think
to myself...

Update on 2 broken arms, and cool side-benefit! by
Robyn Kozierok
Matthew got his casts off Tuesday afternoon. (yay!) He's as good as new.
Wednesday I was volunteering in the boys' school. I got to work with Matthew
on his reading, and after he read to me he had to add something to his
reading journal. I noticed that he picked up the pencil the correct...

Allowance tracking on Palm? by
Robyn Kozierok
I know we have a number of Palm users here, so....
does anyone track their kids' allowance on their Palm Pilot?
I've decided to stop giving my kids physical money for their
allowance, and just track their accounts in my Palm. They
usually don;t have their money with them when they want it
anyhow,...

, then by
Nevermind
I'm sure many of you have encountered this problem: My 8 YO has a very
easy time with his 3rd grade work; so far, none of it is challenging
to him. However, on his homework, we see him making TONs of errors
that are clearly due to carelessness. They range from skipping whole
problems/lines of...

Study woes by
iowacookiemom
I'm posting this for a friend. She has an 11 year old daughter in 6th
grade. Her daughter does very well in school but struggles with
social studies. She has difficulty reading and memorizing facts. She
says she just doesn't like social studies, but that's sort of a
chicken-and-egg situation: ...

Robyn Kozierok
Evan (2.5yo) wants to know what sound zebras make. I have no idea!
I guessed they might make a sound similar to a horse. Anyone know?
I tired askJeeves and found a sound file but I couldn't play it.

parenting in the land of dessert by
Karen G
The thread on bedtime snacks got me thinking. I have one child who
thinks dessert should be served at every meal and should always be ice
cream (although she might try some pumpkin squares or jello on an odd
night). I have been trying to make dessert not unusual, but not
mandatory in our home. ...
