how many feeds a day for your baby...? by
J's Mama
It seems like it's really hard to find info about what is "normal" for
breastfeeding an older baby. There's tons and tons of info about
newborns -- how many feeding are normal, approximately how many minutes
babies typically feed, etc. I know every baby's different -- heaven
knows my baby didn't...

"Just a Taste" of Solids by
LoopyNZ
Hi there,
My six-month-old DS has just started solids. I'm just experimenting at
the moment, so he's having a few spoonfuls of sweet potato each day this
week, maybe potato then apple in the weeks to come.
My question is about my parents and in-laws. Now that he's "on solids",
I'm a bit...

Two years.... by
FlowerGirl
Well, I thought H as going to wean himself about a year ago ... and he has
dropped to 2 feeds a day (sometimes more)... but we've made 2 years. K
self-weaned at 18 months, so I'm quite pleased that H hasn't decided he's
finished yet.
Much as I know many people here have bf for much longer than 2...

Is rice milk suitable for baby starting solids? by
Liz
To me, it tastes much closer to breast milk than cows milk. The only concern
I would have is it has salt listed as an ingredient. DD will be six months
old in a week, and I think I'll try her on solids then -- she seems keen.
Thanks,
Liz

tonight on C5 by

Hi all,
There's a prog on Channel 5 (UK) tonight called "Honey I suckled the kids".
A snatch of the synopsis:
"This programme delves into a child-rearing phenomenon that intrigues and
disturbs people in equal measu 'attached parenting'(AP). The couples we
meet advocate prolonged breastfeeding,...

Setting one's self up for failure? by
cjra
I am curious to hear other's perspectives. On another parenting board,
where most of the members are young and first time moms, I read so
often that they will 'try breastfeeding and if it doesn't go well,
stop."
Now, normally I'm all for trying and being realistic. But at least for
me, such an...

nine months and no solids! by
mamasays
Hi, have been feeding my son since birth (he is now nine months old)
and my question is - is there something wrong if he hardly accepts
solids? I fed my daughter - now aged 19 (!) until she was fifteen
months old, and never had this problem. Is it boy babies who are the
fussy ones?

Now we've got BF down, how do we go to bottles? by
cjra
DD is 7 weeks today and doing great (still some rash, but otherwise
ok). We've got 5 weeks til daycare....
She adamantly refuses a bottle. Any tips other than patience and
persistence? DH gives it and I leave the room. We've tried a couple of
different nipples. Now, she was never good with the...

another thing - white milky discharge and anal rash? by
cjra
Thanks to all for humouring me through my many paranoid new mom
questions. Here's another -
first, most of DDs other 'symptoms' have subsided. She still has the
face/neck rash but it's gone way down. She's eating well, fussing less,
etc. So I'm inclined to think there's no regular food intolerance...

Missing period while BF by
[email protected]
Hi all...
I got my period back in June after 15 months without it (pregnancy and
BF). I had it in June and in July. I was expecting it again last
week, but still hasn't arrived.
I've taken a few PG tests and all negative. No signs of AF like
normal.
Any ideas why it might go missing again,...

Amounts of allergen (shrimp)? by
Jeannie
Which of the following is more likely to cause a reaction (hot, red face rash)?
1. Mom eats *a lot* of cocktail shrimp and breastfeeds baby.
2. Baby eats rice from a stir fry that had shrimp tossed in.
DS had a face rash some time ago. It seemed to coincide with my eating a
boatload of shrimp...

shallow latch, fast milk flow -- help! by
J's Mama
I've recently switched nursing positions from cradle or cross-cradle to
side-lying, which seems to be more comfortable for both DS and I
(hooray)! My concern now, though, is that DS has started latching on
quite shallowly, and I can't seem to persuade him to do it any other
way. I actually think he...

Breastfeeding Complications by

Sore nipples
Many women complain of tender nipples that can make nursing painful and
frustrating. The good news is that most don't suffer for long. As the
nipples toughen quickly, breastfeeding becomes painless. However,
improperly positioned babies or babies that suck very vigorously can
make the...
