how much to express... by
Anon Ymous
we have an exclusively breastfed baby of 5 weeks. the wife has to have
pretty powerful antibiotics for a week- hence no breast for 2 weeks.
my question: how much should she express to keep the breast secretion
up for when she resumes breast feeding ? ie 60-70 mls times five be
okay- relying on...

Comfort sucking/fussiness before sleep by
All4meUC
My two month old has aquired the habit of being extremely fussy before he falls
asleep. He is begining to be more aware of his sorroundings and I wondered if
the fussiness was related to or caused by all the stimulation. He usually
falls asleep peacefully during the day, but at the end of the day...

Is there anything I can do to help? by
Phoebe & Allyson
One of Allyson's mom's coworkers had a baby last night. She
doesn't speak a word of English, and none of the nurses
speak a word of Chinese. So instead of trying to convey
"Your baby is hungry and you should try to bf," they just
gave the baby formula. Never mind that she *wants* to bf (I
asked...

Storing Breast Milk by
Kathy
It wouldn't be a new day if I didn't stop in to ask yet another batch of
questions!
Yesterday I pumped for the second time (dd is 16 days old). The reason
I pumped is I was engorged and she was showing no signs of waking to
nurse soon. I was able to get 4 ounces which I was pretty...

Not really a birth story, but... by
zeldabee
I've worked on Anton Edward's birth story off and on since we came home
from the hospital, but honestly, it's a bit depressing (though all is well
now), and I've abandoned it for now...so, here's the short version.
He was born Monday, September 8, at 8:09am, weighing 7lbs, 4oz, 21...

OT poll c-section recovery time by
Alicia
Hey ya'll, I'm just wondering, for any of you who have had a c-section, when
did you begin to feel like you had something like normal energy again? For
this last week I've been so utterly exhausted. I have been walking every
day, sometimes for a couple of hours, sometimes shorter, as well as...

do people not like holding their babies? by
Anne Rogers
I took ds for jabs today, our surgery has a baby clinic for an hour on a
Monday so the waiting room was full of babies. It didn't occur to me til I
came home that I was the only one actually holding my baby, everyone else
came in with them in a buggy, or a car seat, I'd driven, so when I'd
parked I...

help needed for friend please by
Beth Kevles
Hi -
Two suggestions for your friend:
1. Let the baby nurse on just one breast at a time. He may be getting
too much foremilk and not enough of the fat-rich hindmilk. This can
be alleviated by nursing at just one breast for at LEAST one feed,
and preferably a couple of feeds in a row. (The...

Update on how can I offer bf support long distance. by
Cathy
I posted a while back that my SIL was preg, and was unlikely to get much bf
support in her home town. Well, looks as though I didn't have to worry!
The baby was born full term, but very little, and can't latch. But SIL is
expressing - no suggestion of formula! Her milk came in after 3 days,...

Saw something nice by
Shannon
I saw a friend and her baby for the first time this weekend, since she had
the baby. Baby is about 3 months old, typical for that age, and very cute &
chubby. Friend is nursing. Having no problems, not embarrassed about it at
all. It was delightful to see, at last, someone with no issues - it...

New Meaning to Toe-Curlingly Painful by
Alison
Due to my nips being so painful cos of the thrush, I tipped Ro in closer to
me, tilting my lap by tip-toeing my feet. 7 or 8 times a day and 15 weeks
later my big toenail on both feet has decided to puncture the skin on the
side of my big toes and it's now all inflammed and infected. Nice. ...

New bf'er questions... by
Kathy
Hi--
I posted a "re-intro" post earlier today, and now I have another
question I hope someone out there can help me with.
DD (our first) is 9 days old today. BF has been going fairly well.
Yesterday we had our well baby visit and discovered that she has gained
all of her weight back, plus 1.5...

CTTD and S by
Vicki S
I walked back into the living room from getting some OJ for DS, and I
saw DD with one arm in her sweatshirt, the other arm coming out of the
neck, and an enormous (well, on her) army/bucket hat on her head. I
couldn't see her face at all. She pulled the hat off, grinned at me,
and said...
