nutrition question on year old by
blacksalt
I'm new at this, so I'm reading some books. The consensus seems that
after a year of age you change from formula to milk. When reading about
iron, the books say "use iron fortified cereal". The baby cereal and the
formula are both iron fortified. However, I'd rather start moving into
whole grains...

Major Sleep Problems at 12 months... by
Mama2John
It's been a long time since I posted (note the new user name, I used to
be "Usenet Fan").
DS is 1 year old now and we're having some major sleep problems. He
used to sleep fine in his crib, wake once during the night, nurse and
go back to sleep. He didn't necessarily demand a feeding, but I did...

When did your kids show signs of rhythmic awareness? by
Donna Metler
I noticed today that Alli seems to be making noises, smacking her lips, etc
in time to recorded music (I have been playing the "Rhythmically Moving" CDs
quite a bit-this is a set designed for use in teaching movement to children,
and is really nice mostly instrumental folk songs). I've also been...

Solo bath time by
dragon
How old was your child before you left them in the tub unsupervized?
DS is 5 and still too young, but I was curious when others felt it was
safe to let their little ones take a bath without someone in there
watching.

Coupla Questions by
Denise~*
1. I have a 2.5 year old who is normally very happy & well adjusted.
He rarely gets tantrums, but the time that he will typically get one is
at nap & bed time. I have been also told by my family that he should be
in a toddler bed by now because he might climb out & hurt himself.
If you have had...

Foods for Picky Toddler by
Heather Kitchen
Do any of you have any meal suggestions or recipes for food that'll
please a picky toddler? My 18 MO just started turning down almost
everything I serve him. He can't survive off of mashed potatoes,
applesauce & mac & cheese.
Thanks!

emergency (not really) by
Steph
I have been wracking my brain to come up with a couple of suggestions
to give my son for making a Christmas present for his granpdparents. I
cannot ask him an open ended question -- what would you like to make?
Because *I* am not very crafty and I have to help him make it.
I had thought of...

Waaaah, it ate our precious memory! by
Banty
This is about a Christmas ornament. A precious Christmas ornament of great
sentimental value.
My sister and her kids sent us a homemade Christmas ornament. It consisted in
an ice cream cone (yes, a real ice cream cone), with some tinsel and a little
stuffed bear in it. The bear has a Santa...

Is having kids worth it? by
Sue
Hi,
I am a Mum to an 8 yr old only. She is the light of my life and I wouldn't
be without her for the world. For a LONG time I never wanted another as I
found the toddler stage particularly difficult and I did not want to have to
do that again, having to watch them every second of the day, the...

Very Poor Handwriting by
Chris Himes
Both of my boys have very poor handwriting (ages 9 and 13). Some of
their teachers comment on it, but some don't. My older son
occasionally misses some points on tests because the teacher can't
read his answers. Now that he has started more advanced math, he also
misses negative signs, forgets...

what age first live theatre/orch (kid oriented)? by
Karen
Have reached an agreement with ds1 that at age 4 1/2, he will stop
nursing. This will be around thanksgiving, when a lot of holiday/kid
oriented theatre and music events start for the season. I thought it
would be nice to take him to a "big boy" event, just him and mommy, to
celebrate/mark the...

kids boots - rec's needed by
firedancer623
Im trying to find a nice, warm, dry pair of boots for my daughter. The
reason Im having a hard time is, she, being nearly 9 wants the Ugg boots. Or
lookalikes. Which, is fine. But are they suitable for winter? I know the
actual Ugg ones are designed for warmth and if I need to fork out the $...

Preschool dropoff problems by
Betty Woolf
Hi all,
For the last 10 days, dropoff at preschool has gone from DS crying a
little to hysterical screaming and clinging, and I'm hoping someone has
some tips to make things easier on DS and me!
He is 3 years 2 months. He has been in the same center part time or
full time since he was 4 months...

teaching tolerance by
Beth Kevles
Hi -
I think Debbie's response (point out how *everyone* is different in
different ways, including personality) was terrific. Kids go through a
stage of noticing and labelling differences, so you need to deal with
this in a developmentally appropriate fashion.
In our house, this means teaching...

Just saw Jamie's School Dinners by
Chookie
The series has just finished here in Oz. I only saw the last 2 programs, but
I'm impressed at the result (and horrified at the muck the kids were eating
before!).
I wasn't surprised to hear that behaviour had improved with better nutrition,
but the comment that the asthma medication had gone down...
