Cheaper source for disposable changing pads by Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward
I was at the dentist's yesterday for a cleaning and made a great discovery which I want to share with those of you who use disposable protective liners on the baby's changing pad: the vinyl-backed 3-ply paper bibs used by my dentist are IDENTICAL to the disposable changing pads by Pee...

Planning to formula feed by Lauren
Just interested in opinions here on the point of planning to formula feed even before a baby is born (or perhaps even conceived). Unplanned pregnancies and exceptional circumstances aside, I can't help but wonder that if it is too much trouble for a parent to even plan to attempt to breastfeed (or...

I have decided to breastfeed, and haven't yet been able to take a bf class but am going to very soon-- I am due in May! (I'm in North...

Donna Metler wrote: I had my yearly with my OB/GYN-which in my case is also the "See if everything has healed correctly before even considering a next pregnancy". And as far as the appointment was, everything went well. However, when I was asked about my menstrual cycle, I commented that I...

Pump and dump? Aspirin by cjra
I had a splitting headache at work, and not thinking took 2 aspirin (not sure what size, really small pills ;-)), then remembered I wasn't supposed to take aspirin while BF. Is such a small amount significant? Should I pump and dump? If so, for how long?

Book Recommendation by Amy
I'm only 50 pages in, but I have to recommend "What No One Tells the Mom" by Marg Stark. Her other book, "What No One Tells the Bride" basically saved the first year of my marriage, and this one is every bit as good. I wish I'd had it months ago. I've just had a very personal, and yet very HUGE...

OT - Potty training - can it be child-led? (xpost) by Cathy Weeks
Hi all, My daughter is almost two, and all of a sudden has started asking to sit on the potty. She prefers to do it fully clothed, and while one of her parents are sitting on the toilet, but I figured it was time to start reading up on the topic. My guess is that she's still a bit young for this...

bf help for women with large breasts by Alberta
Is there something special that a woman with large breasts needs to be aware of when breastfeeding? I am having a lot of trouble with my 4 week old. I've had to supplement since day 5, and I want to stop but she is always hungry, so I keep having to give her formula, about 6 ounces a day! I...

1st Newborn Doc Appointment by Carol Ann
Morgan had her first doctor's appointment today. Here's the breakdown: ~The hospital miscalculated her length. Today she was 20.5" so that means that she was NOT 19" at birth. Seems she is in the upper percentile for height. YIPPEE!! ~She is 7.9 oz. That is up 1 oz from her birthweight.

What does breastfeeding advocacy mean to you? by Mum of Two
There is a lot of debate raging on parenting bulletin boards about breastfeeding advocacy, how it should be done, why it's necessary, if it's necessary etc. It seems like a lot of people are offended by BF advocacy itself - or what they perceive it to be - and as such there is a bit of a backlash...

OT - Doll House experiences and questions (xpost) by Cathy Weeks
Hi all, When my mom went to dental school (I was nine when she started, 13 when she finished), she bought me a dollhouse kit to work on, because I was nine years old, and it was going to be our first summer apart. This was the summer of 1978, and the kit cost around $75. At nine, I really wasn't...

Our son Josh is having a rash that's even strange to the doctor. Basically, he got a rash two days after taking antibiotics for the first time (Amoxicilin). The rash looks like red small dots (see photos in the web page below). We stopped the antibiotics and it gradually reduced over 3 days. Then...

A call for help! (co-sleeping research needed) by Em
(crossposted to MKB & MKP) I found out at my LLL meeting tonight that the SIDS taskforce in town is mounting an effort to have co-sleeping deemed a hotlineable offense (i.e. you can be reported to the Division of Family Services *Child Abuse* hotline for co-sleeping with your baby!). Anyway, as a...

How much breastmilk does it take to actually do anything? by Donna Metler
I'm down to pumping twice a day, and my output is such that my daughter can have, maybe, a sippy cup full of milk total in a day's time-about 8 oz, with 3 in the morning and 5 at night. I'm wondering if I'm actually doing anything useful for her with that small quanitity (which takes about...
