Spirited boys in cub scouts revisited by
bizby40
You might remember a few months ago I was asking
what we could/should do about these two rather
spirited boys in our den -- the only two whose
parents never showed.
Well, I listened to the advice at the time, but as I'm
not the den leader, I couldn't do much more than
drop a suggestion here or...

Who the heck are these kids talking to at lunch anyway? by
bizby40
There have been a couple of threads recently that involved cell phones. If
you've read the first one, you know that I am not a fan of cell phones. My
kids may very well be the only high schoolers in town that don't have
them -- though with my oldest being only 9, I do have quite a while...

Celebrating Menarche by
Wendy
Is there some nice thing that mothers do with their daughters when they
first start their period? All my mother did was point out the uses of
cold water. Can I do better than this?

Should I "just get over it"? How by
bizby40
Hi everyone,
I have a problem that has been eating at me off and on for a couple of years
now. At the beginning of 2nd grade -- at the orientation -- we met a new
girl and her mother. We worked hard to help them integrate into the new
school. We invited the daughter over, introduced them to...

Virginia Tech Massacre and Campus Security by

Virginia Tech Shooting
At Virginia Tech some of the students moved tables in front of the
door to try to keep the gunman from comming in. Because there was no
way to lock the door. A few years back there was a shooting at a
college or University in Canada. Can't remember the name of the
school....

snappy comeback needed (venting, too) by
Anonymama
One of the many issues I'm dealing with right now, as we try to figure
out why my three-year-old has ADHD-type behavior, is other parents. I'm
really, really, really tired of disapproving glares and unsolicited
advice from strangers. I try to let it roll off my back, but sometimes
-- especially if...

Why have kids? by
Mike
Hello All,
I am 37 years old and have never wanted children. My loving hubby of 5
years agreed to no children when we married. Now after over 5 years of
marriage, he is beginning to rethink his position. Specifically, he is
concerned about what our life will be in our 50's/60's/70's when we...

Daycare poll by
P. Tierney
I'm looking for some honest responses. No explanation is required,
and no one will be called upon (by me, anyway) for their responses.
Anyone can answer, regardless as to whether or not it would apply
to you.
Question: If you were looking for a full or part-time at-home
daycare provider and you...

Interesting local article on baby names by

Given the recent discussion on misc.kids on Names in Preschool, I
thought you all might enjoy this. This is a report that my hometown
paper does every year on the babies born at the main hospital in the
area. This is from a mostly rural...

What about circumcision and pain relief for baby by
T
I am having sons circumcision tomorrow. I had one other question.
They do not use pain killer because of swelling, is there something that the
doc can use that will not swell. I heard of a cream that they can put on to
minimize pain.
Also, why is it best practice to NOT do circumcision. I...

Teenage daughter missing school bus. by
bizby40
Hi everyone,
This post is for a friend with a 14YO daughter. Her daughter consistently
misses the school bus. She's already missed it 3 times this week. Her mom
wakes her up in plenty of time, but then she either doesn't get out of bed,
or gets out but messes around, or whatever. I get the...

Do you "correct" others' kids? by
ted
In another thread someone mentioned that her kids were jumping on the
coffee table when her friend's kids started it. So that made me
thinking.. Sorry if this was discussed here before.
This happened to us in the past. I didn't have kid(s) then. Anyways,
if you have visitors and if their kids...

When did daycares become "schools"? by
P. Tierney
Is it just my area, or are more and more parents who send their 1-3
year olds to daycares refer to them as "schools"? If so, why? Are
the parents trying to make themselves feel better about where their
kids are, or are the daycares trying to pump themselves up in some way?
I don't get it. I've...
