Rapid weight loss is bad why? by
H Schinske
Cheryl S. writes:
I got food poisoning last Thursday. Have lost six pounds in 4-5 days.
ISTR there is something bad about losing weight too rapidly and nursing.
Ketones? What do I do? I was dehydrated for a day but he seems to have
made up for that.
There's nothing you can do really. A...

Blood found in pumped milk - Please Help! by
Victor
My wife has been breastfeeding our first son for 4 1/2 months so far.
She started working about 2 months ago and has been pumping out breast
milk since then. A week ago, she noticed some blood in the pumped
milk, which makes about 3 ounces of milk displaying a pink color. This
happened again two...

Ot weird thing on arm - excema? by
teapot
The Moo has a cirular thing on his arm, about the size of a 5p bit,
(dunno what that is in American, sorry) It is in exactly the same
place as a scabies track he had but that was treated back in November.
The outside of the circle is a bit scabby and the inside was bumpy.
The inside is now smooth...

I refuse to believe this is colic. I think Alena's hit a growth spurt. My
milk is flowing like a fast river right now and this monkey is so fussy I
barely get any sleep.
however everyone around me is saying that she's got colic and that I should
stop feeding her every time she cries. well,...

Thermacare packs for a plugged duct by
Dagny
My left side has been hurting for the last three days -- but I didn't really
investigate until today since I'm getting kicked, squeezed and bitten
regularly by DD. Nope, it's a lump. I bought the Thermacare heat packs at
the drug store -- the air-activated ones advertised for menstrual cramps...

steroids safe to treat asthma in children? by
determined
So the doctor has prescribed a steroid inhaler for Emily. I am reading
stuff online that scares me, like it interferes with the pituitary gland and
can inhibit growth in children! Emily is small enough, we don't need to do
anything to stunt her...
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Is this likely to be a swollen gland due to lactation or

Um. Neither. It's probably a plugged duct.

avoiding nursing to sleep by
Anonymama
My son nursed to sleep every night, and couldn't fall asleep without
nursing. I ended up nightweaning (other than going to bed) when he was
one or two years old (it's all a blur) and it was hard on all of us --
but I was going insane from lack of sleep as he'd wake up every hour or
two and want to...

Question on Avent Isis manual pump by
Irina
I plan to use this pump at work, but it says in the instructions that
it needs to be washed and sterilized after each use!!! I need to pump
at least twice while I am at work, and of course there is no way I can
sterilize it or even wash as the "breastfeeding room" at work is
nowhere close to the...

Low supply due to slow build up of milk by

I am having a problem with supply. My son was born 3 weeks early and
is now 8 weeks old. I have been having problems breastfeeding from the
beginning. Know problems are high palette and weak sucking. The
hospital grade pump is stronger than he is. I have been on Fenegreek
and Blessed Thistle and...

can crying infant cause choking? by

Last night our 4 1/2 month baby cried so hard in the car that he
started choking. I knew something was wrong while I was driving
because he just suddenly stopped crying. Thank goodness his grandma
was sitting in the back seat with him. She said something was wrong
and I needed to pull over. He...

questions about development - when do you worry? by

My nearly 7 month old daughter Emily is still on ebm, but will have to make
the switch to formula as our supply will be running out in a matter of days.
All has seemed well, although she seems so small! Just the other day, a
friend of ours brought their 6 wk old over and he is 12 lbs. He started...

Well, it's the new year and it's time to update the birthdays. So,
anyone who didn't get a greeting last year or is new to the group, and
would like a birthday greeting, either post the information to this

pumping for work by
Irrational Number
We've determined that Pillbug drinks 20 oz. during
the day, so that's what I need to pump daily. I
can usually get 3-4 oz. per 8-minute session. If
I go to 10 minutes, not much more comes out. That
means I need 5 to 6 pumping sessions per day.
My friends, and the websites and books, say...

supplementing pm feed with EBM by
V.
Madi (5.5wks) nurses almost constantly all evening, which I understand is
normal. However, she seems to get little milk from this (no audible
swallowing sounds, no "milk stupor"). I figure this is b/c of both her
constant nursing and evening slowdown of production. Due to soreness, etc
before...
