starting preschool by
Karen G
My first child is going off to preschool in five weeks. I know that
this isn't a big deal, but it is for me. How do I encourage her
independence and prepare her for this amidst my own personal feelings on
the subject?
On a related note, the preschool has shared that they will be doing a
home...

Disagreement about third child by
Scott
My wife and I have an 8-year-old son, and a 5-year-old daughter. My wife would like a third. There are times when my wife accepts not having a third, but she'll frequently find herself wanting another. She is worried she'll regret not having another one, and the ones we have are growing some...

Heat by
Stephen Gray
Hello.
It's getting hot here (for the UK anyway) and I wondered if anyone had any
ideas for keeping babies cool other than fans etc.

7th grade woes by
The Keatings
My 12 year old is getting poor grades in school because she doesn't turn in
her homework (class work and tests are fine). The homework organization has
been an issue since forever, and we've tried everything. Any suggestions?

handling own medicine--what age? by
Chris
At what age can kids be responsible for taking things like tylenol or
allergy medicines on their own as needed? My son is turning 15 and
occassionally gets a headache and suffers from some mild seasonal
allergies. Until now I've kept all the medicines in my room and he has
to ask for pills. I'm...

Baby Edmund Hillary!! by
[email protected]
Hi
We have an 18 month who has worked out that she can climb out of her
cot. We thought that it might happen soon, and even lowered the base
below the manufacturer's lowest position.
However this evening we heard an almightly bump as she fell onto the
floor. Thankfully she seems to be fine,...

The next generation... by
Claire Petersky
Someone I met on the misc.kids newsgroup back in the early 90s reports that
her daughter, who recently married, is now pregnant. I don't know what I
feel is more ancient, me or the internet!

Warm Regards,

Need Advice - Sleepless Baby by
[email protected]
We have a 6 month old baby girl who has been the perfect baby from the
beginning. She began sleeping through the night almost immediately. She
didn't take to breast feeding, but my wife did pump for 2 months then
we switched to formula. She took the changes in stride, and now is on
her fourth week...

Food advice and kids by
Janet
I have two boys and a girl (ages 14, 11 and 5). My problem is that they
all like different foods. I insist on making them the same thing, which
is often a battle but getting easier since I have not back downed once.
I want to know if anyone has any kid-friendly dinner and/or suggestions
for finicky...

thumbsucking coming to an end by
Karen G
We have been warily watching our second daughter suck her thumb as she
has reached 3 this year. She sucked her thumb before she was born, so
this has been a long term concern. At Christmas, she decided she wanted
her ears pierced and has been talking about it since--particularly
because we said...

Regarding the sound-field speaker system I was referring to back in the
volunteer thread...
I was happy to hear today that my daughter's 504 plan *was* approved,
and the schools will be providing her with the sound-field system she
needs in class. Sometimes things *do* work out....

What sound do zebras make? by
Robyn Kozierok
Evan (2.5yo) wants to know what sound zebras make. I have no idea!
I guessed they might make a sound similar to a horse. Anyone know?
I tired askJeeves and found a sound file but I couldn't play it.

Hello Everyone, just thought I'd share what I'm going through and see if
there are any other women who have had the same experience.
My little one is ten weeks now, and just over 11 pounds. My doctor told me
not to lift anything heavier than him for three months while I healed and
I've been...

CTTS: Guess what I'm thinking of? by
Ann Porter
Little boy was playing a guessing game with me the other day: Guess what
I'm thinking of?
"It's bright, and yellow, and in the sky in the daytime, and makes you
sneeze."
It's the sun. I just thought it was cute that he added "and makes you
sneeze." Little boy is a sun-sneezer. That's not a...

Happy Birthday! by
Scott
Wow, the DS is 9 today. Alas, tonight is the night I teach
('til 8) and then I'm in a rehearsal so I won't be home 'til
long after he's asleep. This weekend he and I go out to eat
while DW and DD are out of town. Scheduling does get easier,
right? ;)
We got him HP and the Chamber of Secrets on...

Major tantrums and my 4 (almost 5) year old daughter by
[email protected]
Basically I have a 4 year old daughter who is creative, expressive and
happy most of the time. Her teachers have nothing but praise for her
and she truly is one of the sweetest children I know. However, lately
(the last 3 months) she has begun having major tantrums. The last one
was enough to...
