Oy ... what did I say? by
[email protected]
So ... I was wandering around the net the other day, and found myself
over on the Babycenter.com parenting boards. A rather unusual place
.... Lots of moms with lots of questions about fairly straightforward
things (and surprsingly few helpful answers from other moms) so ...
being the kind of...

Breastfeeding rates and advertising by
[email protected]
The other day it occurred to me that maybe the advertising that deters
women from breastfeeding isn't primarily that which promotes formula
but that instead maybe it's the fault of advertising (and a culture in
general) that objectifies women and their breasts. Maybe so many women
don't breastfeed...

Quick introduction of myself :) by

I am just trying to find time to lurk and join in here. Some here from MKP
may recognize me. :)
My name is Jill, and I am 34 weeks pregnant with my first (a girl). I have
decided to breastfeed, and haven't yet been able to take a bf class but am
going to very soon-- I am due in May! (I'm in North...

OT Developmental Questions by
Kathy
I realize that babies develop at their own pace, but I have a few areas
of (minor) concern with my daughter and I was hoping for some input from
others.
DD will be 7 months old in 10 days...
She can not sit up on her own, and when I do sit her up she is quite
wobbly. Sometimes she can stay up...

Book Excerpt: Nursing Your Baby by

I got this book from my aunt, it's by Karen Pryor and Gale Pryor, and
is called "Nursing your Baby." It claims to be "fully updated for the
90s" on the cover. I'll let you guys judge...

Not spam, I swear... by

Y'all have known me long enough to know I'm not spamming for this
website. I'm genuinely curious.
Before I drop $47, has anyone tried this method:
http://www.sleepsense.com/
I don't want to spend the money if it isn't worth it. She *says* that
it's not an "abandon your baby to cry it out"...

Homo milk by
Stormlady
Rhiannon is almost 16 months old now (wow, where did that time go??) and
since we have moved back in with my in-laws they have been saying that I
should be giving her homo milk now that she is 16 months. She is still
nursing, in the morning, nap time and bedtime. Maybe one more during the
day and...

Leaving Breastfeed baby by

Hi I'm new to this...but I had to ask a question that has been

Breastfeeding not medically necessary by
Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward
So says my insurance company, having rejected a claim from a specialist
at the Faulkner Breast Centre who tried a procedure to open my milk
pores to enable me to breastfeed my newborn four months ago.
I am outraged and helpless.

9 month ish roll call by

Moo boy is asleep in my lap after a good feed so excuse typos.
Nights are on and off, more off than on as he has just cut a top tooth
and has a cold. I tried to cut down on night feeds but as he is not
feeling well I am back to on demand, every 3 hrs last night which is
an improvement. 'This...

No AF at 14 months - but wanting to TTC #2 - any advice? by
Cathy
Hi all, I know this is not really unusual, but at 14 months I still have no
AF. Until 2 months ago I thought it was a bonus - now I am not so sure. DD
is on solids full on - somedays I don't know where she puts it all! And she
generally nurses 3 times a day, although lately the lunchtime one has...

Not co-sleeping by
Irish Marie
I just wanted to take a straw poll of those that did/do and didn't/don't
co-sleep.
My dh is a barman so he always stinks of passive smoke after work, he also
smokes the occasional cigar so he sometimes smells of smoke even when not
working.
So based on that I don't think that it would be wise to...

Help with a heavy baby? by
Mr. Nobody
Hi all ... we're the parents of a beautiful breast-fed 10-month old
boy, Jason, who's, um, quite a bit heavier than the norm. Would you
believe 44 pounds as of yesterday? (His pediatrician isn't too
worried about his growth since two months ago, but she hasn't seen him
since he had his 9-month...

Breastfeeding as contraception? by
Lina
How long (or) can you use breastfeeding as reliable contraception?
IIRC, it was 6 months as long as you're exclusively breastfeeding. Is that
correct?

This morning I logged into my old support group of moms due the same time

Their babies are younger or around the same age as Alena. Almost all of
them are feeding their babies rice cereal already!!!! Their pediatricians
told them not until 3-4 months, but they're doing it any way!!!

Banana-pillar by
Phoebe & Allyson
Scheduling couldn't be worked out for tomorrow, so Grandma
and Grandpa came over this afternoon for the first solid
feeding.
They wanted to give her banana, and that was fine with us.
They were really so much more excited about it than we were,
so we just let them have at it.
I figured they'd...

All the moms with solids-eating, immobile babies by

Please send them to our house, so they can convince

paper and packing peanuts), and the folly of perpetual
motion. If any of you would like your babies convinced that
they don't need to eat quite so much and might like to move

OT - Doll House experiences and questions (xpost) by
Cathy Weeks
Hi all,
When my mom went to dental school (I was nine when she started, 13
when she finished), she bought me a dollhouse kit to work on, because
I was nine years old, and it was going to be our first summer apart.
This was the summer of 1978, and the kit cost around $75.
At nine, I really wasn't...
