How to make kid go to school happily

My 3 and half year old daughter never likes to go to the neighborhood
Montessori school. She'd rather play alone at home. She makes friends
fine with the kids on our street but seems to have trouble doing that
in school. Any advice is appreciated.

At 3 1/2, she may still have some separation issues that she needs to
work out. You may want to ask the teachers how she behaves at school
and if she seems to be enjoying the class or not.

As Nan said, try to connect with parents of her classmates and make
some playdates. For a child who likes to be alone a lot, it helps to
have friends come to a familiar location. And she will see the same
special friend at school and feel better about going. My dd always
went to schools where her neighborhood friends went too. That way
we could carpool and she already knew the children at school.

Like you said she is 3 1/2 .... that is young to understand making friends
and alot of children at 3 1/2 like to play alone. My son is very content to
play alone, I have asked him many times who he plays with at school and he
says " I don't know", which is definatly a better answer then" no body" but
still I don't know any of his "friends" or who he is paying with. Luckily
his sister attends school with him, on the bus and see's him at recess.
Both of my childrne are shy. My son still is vbery shy and he plays well
with friends who come here. He is also doing better in school after 4
months... September to December didn't go well. Now I get a note saying
that he smiled more yesterday at school then he has all year, so I will
tel;l you not to worry about this, like we did, and things will get better
as she gets older and understands the whole making friends thing more. I
think it is an adjustment, bigger then some for some kids, and once they get
adjusted then things will begin to settle in and she will be telling you
about her new friend before you know it.
