Girl in foster care dies from injuries
Associated Press

DALLAS - Police on Wednesday arrested a 14-year-old boy accused of causing
the death of his 6-year-old foster sister by body slamming her at least
four times.

Desoto police investigators said the boy threw Katherine Frances to the
ground on Sunday, causing her to be hospitalized.

Katherine died Tuesday. Doctors said she had suffered severe head trauma and
was brain dead. Her biological mother, Marbella Frances, said she decided
to disconnect the child from a life support system.

Child Protective Services is investigating the girl's death, agency
spokeswoman Marissa Gonzalez said.

Katherine had been living in DeSoto, a Dallas suburb, with her three
siblings, her foster parents and their biological son.

Days before her death, Katherine was taken to the hospital with head and
body trauma. The foster parents told police Katherine had been fighting
with her sister and said the girls caused the injuries to themselves.

The girl's sisters are now in the custody of their grandparents. Marbella
Frances said her children were supposed to be returned to her in November.

Katherine and her siblings were removed from their mother's custody in July.
CPS investigators say the mother would leave the children alone, didn't
provide food for them and had no electricity.

Marbella Frances said she is a single mother and could not afford a baby
sitter.
