birthing class

Hubby and I went to a birthing class yesterday 11/6/04. Yes this is our
second baby but the insurance pays for it this time around so we decided to
take it.

I was a little disappointed because we didn't spend much time on stretches,
different positions, breathing...etc. I have taken this class with friends
(I have been a coach a couple of times.) and kind of knew what to expect.

This was a one day class so I knew that it was going to be long but to be
sitting in a class listening to lectures gets to you. We spend maybe 30
mins on breathing but that is all. We got a book that DH and I looked threw
today and it gave lots of information on positions and stretching. I hope
that the weekly class does more then what we did.

I am so glad that I didn't have to pay the $95 for the class.

Sorry had to vent.

I'm not sure there's much to teach about different breathing techniques
that's helpful. From what I've read, the main thing to try is deep slow
abdominal breathing, which isn't particularly difficult to learn - 30
minutes sounds like a terribly long time to me. (Of course, it's worth
practicing it, but that's something you'd do regularly at home rather
than one just one day.)

I do agree that it would be nice to learn more about different
positions, etc. I didn't find our antenatal classes terribly useful
either. I didn't actually mind so much about that side of it, since I'd
read up a lot on my own account and didn't expect to learn very much
that I didn't already know, but what I _did_ mind was that I was really
hoping to get to know other women at the same stage of pregnancy, and
somehow that just didn't seem to happen. There wasn't any kind of
introductory session, and we just didn't get to chatting all that much -
oh, well, at least I've got you lot here on mkp!

All the best,

Sarah

Ah breathing it only works if you can focus on it. Last time it took me a
while to focus but it happened.

It was long.....a little too long but we did cover some massage techniques
in that time.

We didn't have that either and I was a little up set but some of the women
seamed like I don't want to talk to anyone....kind of attitude
