Babies given the new superdose vaccine combination are more likely to end
up in casualty, an alarming new report shows.

A study compared babies given the new vaccine schedule - which combines 12
vaccines in two shots - with babies given seperate injections.

It showed those who had the combined shot were twice as likely to visit
casualty units as those given the older seperate version.

One in 100 of these suffered fevers. The super-dose babies were seven times
more likely to be given invasive tests within three days of the
innoculation - including taking samples of blood, urine and spinal fluid.

The infants, all between six and 10 weeks old were also three times more
likely to be given antibiotics within seven days of the vaccine if they had
received the combination jabs. Dr. Lindsay Thompson, lead author of the US
report said: "Reducing the number of shots is wonderful, but when you
combine it with the two other shots, also routinely given, there is an
increased risk of fever."

Jackie Fletcher, of British support group Jabs said: "This study shoots
down the myth that the Department of Health keeps perpetuating - that
babies can take thousands of vaccines without harm."

The research, which bears out a report by the Sunday Express earlier this
month, analyse babies given the American version of the UK jab. It was
published in the Paedriatric Infectious Disease Journal.
