Active Active Baby
 

Does anyone else have a super active baby? I'm just over 20 weeks
pregnant and my little one is CRAZY. The baby moves all over the place
and kicks with such fervor my husband is able to feel the kicks. I
think I'm in for a spirited one. This doesn't surprise me, I never
stop moving. My poor Husband is now running 3 miles a day on the
elliptical instead of just 2 to keep up with what he thinks will be
coming.

I wouldn't worry. It sounds normal baby activity at 20 weeks. Doesn't mean
that the baby will ncessarily be more active. |Your dh will have 6+ months
after the baby is born before the baby's mobile enough to increase the
distance he moves over the course of the day by a mile.:-)

I'm not worried about it. My mom is convinced that it means I'm going
to have a colicky baby. I think she's crazy, considering Colic has
little if anything at all to do with activity, but more to do with
digestive issues.

I just wanted to know if anyone else is having fun with this?

Mine went through spurts of super activity, then calm. I think he/she
was just worn out :). At 36 weeks, still pretty active.

FWIW - my mom said I drove her nuts in utero. I was her 6th child and
most active. And it was a warning sign because I was a spirited and
active kid (and adult....)

Actually, if it's digestive issues, then it's not
colic (not to pick too much of a nit) ;-) Colic is
fussiness that doesn't have a specific, identifiable
cause. Of course, I'm unaware of colic having any
relationship to fetal activity either. Some of my
babes were very active, but none of them were
colicky (thank goodness).

I think we all have had fun with that at times,
though sometimes it loses a bit of its luster in late
pregnancy when it keeps you from grabbing those few
precious hours of sleep!

Oh yeah. I get worried when I don't feel anything for awhile, but then
after and hour of constant stabbing, am begging it to stop!

My first was excessively active inside, in fact we suspect this may have
been what caused me to have preterm contractions. He was a very active
newborn, the lack of restriction didn't stop him kicking like it seems to
stop most babies. He's very active now, but then so are most 3yr old boys!

I don't think my 2nd child at age 1 in any less active than he was but was
very different in the womb, still what many people might have considered
active though, but I was comparing it to excessive!

This is my first pregnancy so i really have nothing to compare it to
other then firends who are pregnant around the same time as me. So far
my baby is moving significantly more and significantly more often then
my friends babies. I think a high energy child would be the best for
me, as long as they are low maintenance in their attitudes like me LOL

Matthew, my first, was quite active in utero and is now a pretty active 11
month old. His legs start kicking and arms punching the moment he's let out
of the sleeping bag and don't let up until he's zipped back into the
sleeping bag (it's winter here). Used to make me laugh when, towards the end
of the pregnancy, I was sitting in a meeting with pretty serious people and
my stomach was doing it's crazy dance. Visible above the table, of course. I
don't think too many people noticed, though!

If you want to more or less know the activity cycle you can expect when this
baby is born, keep a diary of the times of day and night you feel the
movement. I think I read somewhere that, at least at the beginning, newborns
tend to keep a similar sleep and wake cycle as they have in utero.

Some of the movement might let up as your pregnancy progresses and your
little one runs out of room for doing laps and has to content him/herself
with just punches and kicks, as well as mooning the world (particularly
funny, this bump just appears on your stomach and then you realise that the
baby is sticking it's bum out!), because there's no room for anything else.

Me, me, me! I'm having visions of what life will be like with what one
euphemistically calls an "active child." I have a certain amount of
trepidation... :)
