Little boy biting

Hello, I am posting on behalf of a friend who is at her wits end with her
little boy biting. He is just turning two years old and will bite other
children every now and then as they are playing. He doesn't seem malicious
about it just goes up to them and bites them, in other owrds it's not
usually sparked by a conflict. He knows he's done something wrong afterwards
and says sorry but it doesn't seem to deter him from repeat offending :-)

Umm what else, Oh yeah he has a newish baby sister (4 months) and may be
teething (red cheeks, drooling, grizzly), I can't think of anything else
that might be relevant off the top of my head.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Judy

I DONT KNOW how the hell to stop it, but we had the same experience at about
that age, and it just gradually went away. so be patient and maybe hide out
at home for a while is all i can think of!

Shadow him when he is with another child. That means supervise
him closely. When he is about to bite, stop him and say we bite
*teething rings* or *apples* and give him one he can bite.

When he does bite, pay attention to the child who was bitten and
comfort him, ignoring the biter for a short time. Don't make it a
bigger deal than it is, but hug the child he bit and ask him to help
comfort the child he bit.

If he is teething have ice cubes or ice popsicles available and
tell him he can have one if his teeth or gums hurt.

You have to do this consistently and the biting *will* stop as he
learns that he doesn't get attention for it and there is something
else he can do.
