Does Advair cause increased bed wetting?

My 6-year old son has mild asthma and has been inhaling Advair for the
past one week. He used to rarely "wet his bed" (once a week or less)
prior to using the medication, but we have noticed that lately he is
bed-wetting every night about 3 or 4 times. I was just wondering if
the asthma related drugs are causing this phenomenon of increased bed
wetting and is it temporary (somewhere I read that breathing problems
could cause bed wetting but he never complains of any breathing
problems except when he has asthma flare-ups which is only once in 6
months or so)? Any experiences likes this and any suggestions? (Of
course, we have decided to use good-nites for now till he completes
his medication).

Thanks in advance for any responses

If he is sleeping more soundly since starting Advair, I could see that
as a possible contributing factor to his bedwetting.

That having been said, I would let his pediatrician know what's going
on; he/she will probably want to check into it further and rule out
UTI, etc.

Dear Jan,

Thank you so much for your post! I am so grateful!

My son who is now 9 years old was prescribed Advair when he was about 6 or 7 years of age and seemed to wet his bed occasionally before using Advair. After using Advair, his bed wetting increasingly seemed to be a problem.

My husband and I couldn't figure out why our son was wetting his bed every night. We tried not giving him liquids before he went to bed. We asked him to try and go to the bathroom before bed every night, even though many times he said that he didn't need to go.

We took him to his pediatrician and was told that he was just too lazy to get up and go the bathroom. He also said that it was possible that our son wasn't getting the signal or urge to know when to go to the bathroom. He suggested that more drastic measures could be taken to help.

I found this to be a bit strange since our son didn't even know that he was wetting his bed. After about a year, he was taken off Advair. His bedwetting became less frequent, until he was no longer wetting his bed. It wasn't until we gave our son a couple of doses of Advair 2 consecutive nights did he wet his bed again.

I decided to Google Advair and bedwetting and after reading your post I am no longer doubting my suspicions about the effects of this medication. I am convinced of the correlation.

I think that the drug manufacturer should take responsibility in disclosing this possible side effect. I think that it would spare the humiliation of someone taking this drug, especially children, and prevent a misdiagnosis where more drastic measures of treatment are prescribed.

I think that everyone using Advair should know.
