Default Deadbeats

I don't mean to be rude, but your comments below are extremely shallow,
and simply ignore the points that are repeatedly made in this news group,
such as:

(1) The great majority of single mothers are in that situation as a result
of choices that they, and they alone, made. These choices include, if the
mothers formerly were married, the decision to expel their husbands from the
family. If never married, these women made the unilateral choice to let
pregnancies proceed to childbirth, and not give the child up for adoption.
The fathers, from whom these women want to extort "child support," had no
part in the unilateral choices that were available to these women. As a
general principle, people should pay the price for their own choices, and
not be able to send the bill to someone else who had no part in those
choices.

(2) "Child support" in the U.S. is payable to the mother, who need not spend
all or any of it on the children. Furthermore, a glass ceiling on paternal
custody ensures that this money is a one-way flow -- from men to women --
but the kind of quota arrangements that are applied in other fields to
change gender disparities when they are regarded as unfavorable to women are
not applied in the custody area.

(3) The enforcement techniques used to make men pay this money to women are
absolutely outrageous. These techniques include imprisonment, although
debtors' prison has been abolished for all other debts in the U.S.
Furthermore, for some years now, arrangements have been in place to
garnishee this money from the incomes of men, even though they have never
fallen behind in the payments to the mothers of their children.

(4) Your comment about men "having all these babies" is so ludicrous as to
make me wonder whether you are simply trying to provoke a reaction.

I am really shocked at the comments that the men are making. It is really
sad that a Man would not want to provide for his own flesh and blood. I
mean coming up with a plan to make extra money so he can move overseas.
What is that? You, as a man had sex and made that child. You are
responsible reguardless of how you may feel. I am a single mom of a 31/2
year old. Child care alone cost me $588 a month. That's not including
keeping a roof over her head, food, health insurance and the list goes on.
I just don't understand how a person would want to live knowing that
he/she has left all the resposiblity on one person when it took 2 to make
the kid/s. I feel that as long as there is child support enforcement than
these men would stop having all these babies. If you don't want to pay
then you don't need to play. My vote is for anyone who is all for going
after deadbeat dads.
