Okay, we were sitting at home, and a group of families comes wandering

down
the street in the dark, singing. They ring the doorbell, continue

singing,
and give us treats. (Home made cookies and muffins.) At least one

adult is
dressed like a wise man and carrying a lantern. It's too early for

Christmas
caroling. I recognize one family, they go to the Christian Scientist
church. (And to the Waldorf school, I'm not sure which group of families
they are with). What custom is this? Is there anything we are suppose

to
give them? (It's really charming.)

When we lived in Germany there was a celebration like this for St.
Martin's day. The children gathered in front of a church and there
was a retelling of the story (St Martin took off his coat and gave it
to a poor person). Then all the kids walked through town with
lanterns and sang carols. Maybe the Waldorf school with its German
origins is promoting this holiday.

I bet that was it, looking it up it sounds very familiar. Thanks.
