You're going to DisneyWorld over Christmas break? With a 3 year
old? Ack.
(THE busiest and most crowded time of year. I hope you like standing
in line.)

That's when my parents are taking my son, who is in kindergarten,
because other than summer, that is when he has extended time off from
school. In the summer, the weather in Massachusetts, where we live,
may be more pleasant than that in Florida.

Well, since I teach at a university, my break doesn't quite match the public
schools, so we're going to be there a bit before the peak hits (I give my
last final December 5) , but I expect it to be less than ideal-but I'd much
rather do Disney in December, since I have an easily overheated child who
vomits when she gets too hot rather than in the summer, which is the other
time I have more flexibility in my schedule. Academic jobs are nice in that
they have a lot of breaks built in, but not so nice in that the breaks are
very fixed.

Besides, my husband's company has a "use it or lose it" policy on leave-and
he has about 3 weeks of leave that he has to use by the end of the year, or
else-and fortunately, he's been there long enough that he can get the peak
holiday times now.
