Equal Parenting Bike Trek 2008 2008-08-06 LANSING, MI. - Write To Parent, an organization that provides education and services to individuals and agencies ensuring that communities respect and protect all parent-child relationships, is pleased to announce the 2008 Equal Parenting Bike Trek. The Equal Parenting Bike Trek will depart from the State Capitol at Lansing, Michigan on Thursday August 7 at 2PM EST. The intense 750+ mile bicycle trip will be completed when the riders have successfully reached the Family Preservation Festival in Washington DC at Upper Senate Park by Friday August 15, 2008. Riders are expected to have a day of rest on August 14, 2008 before the DC Festival begins. The riders will begin gathering at noon on August 7 at the State Capitol. Well-wishers will attend to see the Equal Parenting Bike Riders off to a safe journey. The lead cyclist is State Corrections Officer Robb MacKenzie, a supporter of Equal Parenting who has made the trek for the past two years. Other cyclists include Brian Downs, a candidate for the highly contested Kent County Circuit Court Judgeship. "One thing is for sure. no other judicial candidate is willing to ride 758 miles from Lansing to Washington DC for our children," said Lary Holland of Write To Parent. Bill Foster, a married instructor that teaches in a local Michigan school district, has never been involved with the system; however Bill sees the lasting and overall effects that broken family relationships have on children on a daily basis while in the classroom. Bill Koellner, a director of Pennsylvania Families' And Children's Equality (PA FACE) traveled to Michigan to ride the full Equal Parenting Bike Trek to Washington DC. During the 750+ mile bike ride the cyclists will summit one particular mountain, after a 20 mile ascent suffering a tremendous 14% incline. During that descent the cyclists may reach downhill speeds of 52 miles per hour. Cyclists will be available during the event and can be reached via mobile phone at 734-218-5552. The public will be able to follow the trek in real time via global positioning tracking services by visiting www.epbt.org.
