Default weight gain pattern and concerns

I am 30 wks today (yay!), and have not gained any weight in the past 3
weeks. In fact, I lost 0.5 lbs this week, although it could be back
tomorrow due to water weight fluctuations.
However, I have gained 25 lbs total this pregnancy from conception to now
and in fact was getting a little worried about gaining too much (for me)
because I anticipated that the rate of weight gain would increase. I had
been gaining 2 lbs per week during the second trimester, so I figured I'd
gain more than that per week in the 3rd trimester and instead I've stayed at
the same weight.
I have changed providers three times during pregnancy (fertility clinic to
OB at 10 wks, OB to midwife at 19 wks, midwife to new midwife at 28wks), so
I'm the only one with an accurate weight gain measurement and pattern. I
know my total weight gain number is fine, I'm just wondering if I should
bring up the lack of weight gain in wks 27-30. (If it's a non-issue I don't
want to waste the visit time on it since I'm just getting to know these
midwives and have other things to cover).
Anyone have ideas about if it's OK to go a few weeks in the third trimester
with no weight gain? I'm not consciously limiting food, but I have to admit
to having a history of body image issues so I may be unconsciously doing
that. Basically, I eat when I'm hungry, but it's possible that my concern
about gaining weight is causing me to ignore hunger.

So, issue or non-issue?

Amy

I wouldn't sweat it yet. Weight is a pretty
inefficient measure of appropriate growth. Two pounds
a week in the 2nd trimester is quite a lot--I wouldn't
expect that pace to continue. Is your fundal height
continuing to increase? And if you're worried that
you're limiting food too much, just keep a food diary
for a few days and check to be sure you're getting what
you need.

Best wishes,
Ericka

If your fundal height has grown I wouldn't worry about it. If your
fundal height has remained static as well your care provider might want
to check fluid levels. Weight on its own isn't much of an indicator.

I don't think it's a waste of time. I think it's a valid issue to bring up
with the midwife, along with anything else you want to know about your
pregnancy, the delivery, or their practices and theories. It's all valid,
and no issue is any less important or worth talking about at your next
appointment.

Good luck!
