Default really dumb cervix questions

my cervix is very, very soft, about 1cm long, still very, very high & about
2-3cm dilated.

am i right in thinking that it needs to be soft to be able to dilate? or can
it be dilated without being soft? (this is my 2nd baby, but 7th pregnancy
and my cervix seems to be a small amount dilated when i'm not pregnant).

and what does the 1cm long indicate? is that referring to the
thinning/effacing? i thought if it was effacing, it would be low down?

i'm not trying to use it as an indicator about when labour would start as i
know it could be anywhere from now to 9 weeks time! just trying to get all
these cervical terms straight in my head!

Yes

Yes

Depends on how low down your baby is.

You know the answers already! I hope your baby isn't 'too late' or 'too
early'

Good luck!

that's puzzling then. bub is quite low. i wouldn't say engaged as i am not
totally a penguin yet, but still quite low down.

With subsequent babies though, because the uterus isn't as tightly fit
around the baby, the baby doesn't get forced so hard down into the
pelvis. Bub is probably sitting down there, but isn't forced so hard
down there. It takes a bit of pressure to get the cervix to move to the
anterior from posterior.

So how many weeks until you're 37 then?

getting excited?? eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
