Irish National BF Week

Or is it all over the world as well? It is here, and there was just a
radio show on about bf'ing...mainly, in public. The co-host of the show
had a child, and bf'ed, and went through the first few weeks of hell,
but it sounded like she perservered and all was good.

And good on the Irish...most of the calls were totally supportive (and a
couple Americans in there too...we should start a club here!) The
statistics said that the rate in Norway was 98%, and in Ireland it's
37%. I don't know where the stats came from, a course. I only jumped
in the last hour of the show.

twice at a funeral this afternoon, even if my mother and grandmother did try
to shield me.

Thanks for typing that all in. It was pretty wild to listen to, but
there were some folk (guys) who said "I don't want to see that". Some
women too. But one guy called up and said that he wishes he saw it
more, not so he could see "ditties" (his word), but cause it's the right
thing to do.

The Gov...HA! They just have such a long long way to go to make it
work, I think. You know what I mean...it's so far down on their list of
priorities.

I'd never listened before, it was on at my friend's place up the road,
and I ran home to listen. I was texting them like mad with comments
(the one time my phone acts funny too!! I think they called me to see
what i had to say!!), a few of which they used.

Well pregnancy is 40 weeks long so the 41st week is when mother and baby are
starting to bf :-).

It's a start at least, and takes the emphasis off all the other crap they're
going through atm :-).

They tried to :-). My grandmother kind of sat leaning forward beside me the
first time. She did bf all 6 of hers in the (eldest born 1944, youngest
1963) but she would be very much of the "you don't talk about it" school.
My mother just has issues with bfing an older baby/toddler but I've called
her on it often enough that she knows that I'm not going to give in.

My phn invited me to a coffee morning that was on this morning but I have a
rotten sore throat and climbed back into bed after bringing dd to school. I
feel bad I missed it now though.
I never thought to listen to the radio today. I was watching Open House and
saw no mention of it, I wonder if TV3's morning show did anything, I must
try to remember to watch tomorrow and if they don't we should text them!

I chop and change depending on the music, the only talk shows I take in are
Gerry Ryan and Ryan Tubridy and that's only the occasional time. I'm
feeling bold tonight I think I might stick on Adrian Kennedy and text in
that they should discuss bf for the week that is in it.
I wimped out of bf in front of our guests at the Christening, but it was
mainly due to all the men present! I went upstairs and fed Liam in my
bedroom, but it was nice to get a few mins time out :-) Funny thing is my 12
yr old bro and 16 yr old nephew were up there playing Playstation and they
just went about their business with their backs to me and not blinking an
eyelid!! Lol!
It was nice though to get everybody chatting about how I am 'still' feeding
him, and isn't he huge and aren't I great. Even for my relations that never
bf they were chatting about how they are sorry now they didn't stick out the
difficult part right at the beginning and my SIL said she's going to
consider giving it another go. My single friends think it's great but
icky!! But I am taking it upon myself to educate them.

Breast is best for working mums

WORKING mothers who breastfeed are three times less likely to be absent
from work because their children are healthier, new research shows.

Health Minister Micheal Martin said studies show just 37pc of Irish
mothers breastfeed - one of the lowest in the world when compared to
Norway (98pc) and the US (64pc). However, Launching National
Breastfeeding Week he conceded there was an "incompatibility" between
the continuation of breastfeeding and a mother's economic need to return
to work.

The promotional campaign comes against a background of new guidelines
recommending that after six months a mother should continue to combine
breastfeeding and solids "until the age of two years or beyond".

Breastfed babies are less likely to be hospitalised with
gastroenteritis, chest, ear or urinary infections. Mr Martin said the
new Maternity Protection Bill, which is at second stage, would allow
mothers to take breaks and express milk in the workplace.

Okay, I didn't know about the bill...that's pretty good. And the
Equality law thing (I can't remember the proper name) supposedly makes
it so if we're in a public place nursing, no one can kick us out...

tv3 is the worst at taking suggestions for what to put on their shows.
I tried forever to get IrelandOffline on there, with no response. They
even ignored us for the blackout. I think it's cause they don't want to
screw with eircom and their weather :-).

The key is you being comfortable too, along with Liam :-). I've noticed
most teenagers (and I bf around them a lot cause the friends up the road
have two and lots of friends) totally get it.

bf they were chatting about how they are sorry now they didn't stick out the
difficult part right at the beginning and my SIL said she's going to
consider giving it another go. My single friends think it's great but
