The birth certificate wasn't the issue, actually--it was getting her Social
Security number issued *with* the birth certificate that put some pressure
on us. As it happened, she was born on a Monday morning. The hospital files
its paperwork with the county and SSA every Friday. So they told us if we
didn't want the hassle of getting the SSN ourselves, we had to name her by
Friday morning. Which is what we did. Otherwise, they'd have issued a birth
certificate for "Girl Lastname" and let us deal with the rest of it.

I don't think it would have been *that* horrible if we hadn't been able to
come to terms by Friday morning. But it *did* help having a bit of pressure
on us--I think she might still be "Hey, you!" if there hadn't been *some*
deadline!
