Default Bleeding in Early Pregnancy

Hi, all. Anyone with experiences of bleeding in very early pregnancy to
share?

I have been having light but red bleeding for 7 days already. Have seen the
doctor who established it as being at 5 weeks, and the encouraging thing was
we found a steady heartbeat with the ultrasound scan.

Doc gave me a progesterone jab and has me on progesterone tablets as well as
folic acid. And ordered me to rest and "move as little as possible". The
bleeding is light. Barely need to wear a pad, but I wear a pantyliner -
just in case. in any case, the bleeding continues, and it's really
unsettling..... I've done all the research I can on the internet already.
*sigh*, so would like to hear your experiences if you have.

With this pregnancy I had a minor bleed at 6 weeks, then a sub chorionic
haemorrhage at 11 (medium one)and 13 weeks (large one). I am now nearly 21
weeks and have bled every day since then. Because my haemorrhages were not
from around the placenta I have been a bit luckier in that I just had to be
on bed rest from 13 to about 18 weeks to help the bleed sites heal.

If the bleed sites are big the clots formed to help heal them are big so any
STRENUOUS activity could cause the clot to lift off the bleed site and cause
more bleeding. Because my bleeds were not near the placenta I wanted to
avoid more bleeds in case those bleeds then incorporated the placenta.

Did your ultrasound show where the bleeding was coming from? When is your
next scan?

I hope your bleeding soon resolves itself.

Best wishes
Pip

Hmmm sounds very encouraging to hear your story. I'm so amazed to hear of
the couple of weeks that some of you take for bedrest!
3 days, and I'm tired of it already. I've just slowed down lots in my
daily routine but many duties still require my attention.

No, the ultrasound did not show where the bleeding is from. Possibly b/c
pregnancy sac is so small still.
I'm seeing the doctor next Thursday.

OB did rule out polyps and ruled out ectopic pregnancy.

It's really worrying to me b/c I've always had troublefree pregnancies.
This is # 4. Age (38) must be catching up. Our eldest is 10. ;-(

My midwife told me that it would be more common to have nonserious bleeding
in the fourth pregnancy. I experienced quite a bit of cramping early with
this pregnancy and that is when they mentioned that I may even have some
bleeding (I didn't, though)

Hang in there, waiting and watching is the hardest thing to do.

My oldest is 10 as well. What are the ages of your others.?

warmly,

I should also have said that this is my 6th pregnancy (have had 4 losses)
and at my 13 week ultrasound the operator did comment that my uterus was
very vascular. So maybe with each pregnancy the amount of blood vessels
increases each time (maybe to support the placenta then when you lose the
pregnancy the vessels are still there??)

In terms of having weeks of bedrest, in my case when you carry badly and the
outcome looks very bleak you will do anything to continue the pregnancy.
Even if that means doing nothing for weeks and weeks.

My insides are just rubbish at holding babies so this is most certainly my
last pregnancy.

Best wishes
Pip

Good luck. I've been on bedrest for three months so far in this pregnancy
with gestational hypertension, hoping to avoid the pre-eclampsia which
caused my son's premature delivery and death last time. And I know the "I'll
do anything to have a baby" feeling very, very well. Bedrest absolutely
sucks...but some combination of what we're doing has gotten me to 8 months
pregnant, with, so far, relatively minor issues compared to those in the
past and no signs of fetal compromise.

I do hope you have a perinatologist or maternal/fetal specialist at least on
consult?

There is a really good listserv for people dealing with subsequent
pregnancies after losses-check out www.spals.com for more information. And
I'm sure you know about www.sidelines.org as well.

Best wishes
Pip

Cramping but no bleeding. Quite another combination, eh?

I had some minor cramping early last week before I started spotting.
But I dismissed it b/c it went away after an hour or so and did not
recur. But a few days after that, I started spotting. *sigh*

My children are 10, 7, 5.
