Also, can you nurse him in a sling yet?

I do have a MayaWrap but have only gotten as far as watching the DVD and
trying to put him in it once. It didn't go very well - he seems too
long to fit well in the newborn carry relative to my small size.
There's nowhere for his legs to go. Hints?

Cleaning the house while your children are small is like
shoveling the sidewalk while it's still snowing.

We can still remember the 10 hour nursing session from hell.
You have 4 hours to go.

My pediatrician says that the growth charts are
actually quite jagged. The growth spurts are
not just at 6 weeks, 2 months, etc. Some babies
go through a smaller growth spurt every few days!

He must be one of these babies. He's been feeding growth spurt-style
for *at least* three days out of every week.

I have no suggestions, just sympathy!

Thanks, that helps too!

Sage did this a few times, but I didn't know any better
and thought it was normal. She was colicky, though,
so I guessed the other option was to let her cry, and I
picked nursing for 5-6 hours at a time.

That's the good news I guess - at least he is just eating a lot but (so
far) isn't colicky.

That may not be helpful, but I can say that she stopped
at a few months old, and she'd often sleep better after
an evening like you describe.

If only that were the case for me! :-) I think it would be easier to
tolerate if I thought I'd get some pay-off, but he still gets up just as
much throughout the night (had been 12:00, 3:00, 6:00, then every two
hours all morning). OTOH maybe what I thought was "normal" *was*
actually "better". The past two nights, he's had shorter feeding
frenzies in the evening (from about 6:00 to 10:00) but then has been up
every hour all night. I am SO tired, I can't even think.

snip I set up a TV tray, put a dishcloth over
her head and ate while I nursed her. It sounds rather horrible, but
you need to eat especially when you're nursing so much!

I've resorted to eating while nursing quite a few times now too. I
don't think it sounds horrible at all.

Also, I got really good at nursing at the keyboard!

I'd like to be able to do this but the sound of the keyboard *really*
irritates DS. I thought they were supposed to be used to sounds they
heard a lot in the womb. Or, I guess he's been really irritated for the
past 10 months, lol.

Good Luck!

Thanks!

Put the sling on upside down and backwards, so the rings are
at your hip and the tail comes forward. Tighten it up most
of the way. Put him in with his feet against the rings, as
sitting up or lying down as he likes. To nurse, loosen the
sling, lift his bottom a little so he's lying belly to belly
(cradle hold), pull your shirt up, and latch him on. After
a few tries, you'll be able to adjust it really quickly.
Tighten or loosen just the inside (next to you) side to keep
him in place for handsfree nursing.

This isn't a good position to walk around handsfree, because
he can lunge forward and fall out more easily, but it's
great for nursing.

"She's eating AGAIN?!?" I heard more than
once.

My DH says that all the time too, though he's not implying anything
wrong. I think it's an expression of sympathy.

I am convinced that I would not be having the supply issues I am
currently dealing with if I had just followed my instincts and not
listened to other people's idea of how often or how long a baby should
eat. Go with your instincts. If he wants to eat, let him eat. If you
put him on any kind of restrictive schedule, your supply might
decrease and your baby might become fussy and frustrated.

I hope your supply issues get worked out soon. I was definitely not
thinking of trying to restrict him at all, but it just seemed possibly
excessive that he wanted to spend so much time eating. Sounds like it
is within the bounds of normal though, so I'll just keep on feeding him
and telling myself he's got to slow down at some point!

Our 6 week growth spurt was crazy like that. I posted
about it here too :-) It was 9 days of a baby on my breast.
It was hard to keep going with it especially because my
baby had been dehydrated and had poor growth at first,
so it was hard to have faith that I had enough milk.

I'm glad to hear about so many other babies doing this too. Things are
always easier for me to cope with when I'm not worried about whether
something's wrong.

The next spurt at 3 months was nothing compared to that
thank goodness. Hang tough!

That is very good to hear! Thanks!

I wouldn't eat if I didn't.

Sometimes I think being able to nurse at the computer is just about the
only thing keeping me sane...I'm glad Bubeleh doesn't mind.
