getting wriggly babies to (co) sleep
Moo boy is crawling and pulling himself up to stand whenever he can.
Trouble is, when he wakes up at night he fights going back to sleep and unless restrained by firm hugging will crawl all over us, headbutt the wall by mistake, try to climb up the sofa.......it all ends in tears. I feel bad restrainig him but it seems to be the way to get him back to sleep, if I lie with him face down for a minute or two that usually does the trick. But as he is getting older, he is getting stronger and more wriggly, is there another way? I tried just letting him wear himself out but it didnt work. teapot and the moo boy 9mths and a bit |

If Caterpillar wakes (usually she just nurses in her sleep, but on the odd bad night she'll wake even though she's not hungry), that's the best way to get her back to sleep. I tried just letting him wear himself out but it didnt work. Yes, we did the "crawl aimlessly from one side of the bed to the other, collapsing in exhaustion every few seconds" thing for a good hour once. No one was happy. Now we hold her tight, and sometimes she fusses for a few seconds, and sometimes she just goes to sleep. Phoebe |

I find that if one of us cuddles her (and yes, we do stop her from getting up) she falls back to sleep easily. I find with one arm under her head and the other under her legs I can prevent her from trying to get up without her feeling "stuck" (if she thinks she's stuck she will also yell and scream). I also talk softly, sing to her and remind her that this *is* a cuddle if she's particularly restless. HTH Amanda |

I just kept grabbing her feet and shoving them down to the end of the bed. Niel would throw his feet up in the air and shove the covers down below my waist. With him I would take a death-grip on the covers and hold them at my neck. If he succeeded anyway, I would jank the covers out from under him, replace them on top of us, reapply the death-grip and go back to sleep. Larry |

Larry death grip, yep, that about sums it up! thanks to everyone for your replies, I was a bit concerned that applying the death grip was not very attachment parent but I'm reassured that others do it! Shame there is no alternative. My mum says he needs to go in a cot. teapot |
