22-1/2 month old milk sensitivity?
DD2 (22-1/2 months) has recently been ill. The ped determined that
she's got a cold, and her lungs sound clear. Although he has said her right ear looks a bit gunky, he didn't think antibiotics were called for atm. She also had a fever spike to 104.2 rectally over the weekend, but we were able to get it down with a dose of tylenol and a dose of ibuprofen. She had vomiting and diarrhea over the weekend as well. Sunday morning dh gave her a bottle of milk and she threw it up after it had time to curdle (eww). So I haven't let her have any milk since then. Her fever has been down for over 24 hours and she's been tolerating solid food (albeit not much!), so I gave her a milk bottle this morning. It didn't even stay down long enough to curdle. She's now acting fine (as fine as I can expect, considering how ill she's been!) I guess I'm wondering if we're looking at a possible milk sensitivity even though she's never had any problems before. She is still coughing and it's productive, causing her to gag a bit as phlegm comes up, but the *only* thing she's throwing back up has been regular milk. Pedialyte, Pediasure, regular juice, and some solids have stayed down fine. ?? Nan |

For some reason, it worsens the mucous and if she had a tummy bug, it probably is irritating to her. I would hold off and I wouldn't necessarily think she has a problem with milk since she has had no problems before. Let her get better and then try the milk and see what happens. I hope she feels better soon. -- Sue (mom to three girls) |
