Default Any ideas?

I am trying to pick out songs for my husband to burn onto a CD for labor and
delivery and was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions. I need ideas
for calm/mellow music (I have already chosen some of Norah Jones songs) and
then some upbeat songs. Thanks!

Metallica :-) I didn't end up listening to any music while in labor, aside
from a brief stint with Adagio (a CD of yoga-practice music), but that was
mostly because no one suggested it and I didn't think of it myself. I'm not
a big music-person and so I don't know if I would have liked it or not, but
I do think several of Metallica's songs would be good to labor to.

Norah Jones is an excellent choice for mellow. Cheesy, I know, but when I
want mellow I love old Simon and Garfunkel (a la S&G's Greatest Hits cd) and
the Carpenters- the songs that really show off Karen's smooth, mellow voice,
not so much the songs that are cheesed up and have her brother on them.

My husband loves them so he will love that suggestion. What also surprised
me was that my doula loves Metallica as well (it didn't fit in my image of
her for some reason:-))

Jon Anderson and Kitaro did an album together called Dreams. I think it'd
be perfect.

I recently found an artist called John Mayer. His Room for Squares album is
awesome. I especially like 3 x 5. It's upbeat and soothing at the same
time....

Songs off the playlist I run when trying to fall asleep:
The Sixth Station - Spirited Away (Anime movie) soundtrack
January Rain - David Grey, from the Serendipity soundtrack
One Fine Day - Natalie Merchant, from the One Fine Day soundtrack
Landslide - Dixie Chicks
Smile - Jimmy Durante
Make Someone Happy - J.D.
You Made Me Love You - J.D. again
Go To Sleep Little Baby - Oh Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack
A Kiss To Build a Dream On - Louie Armstrong
I'm So Glad It Was You - Carol King, You've Got Mail soundtrack
Golden Slumbers - Ben Folds
Once In A Blue Moon - Sydney Forest, from the Simply Irresistible soundtrack
Dreamsome - Shelby Lynn, from the Bridget Jones' Diary Soundtrack
Until - Sting
Mother Natures Son - Sheryl Crow
What a Difference A Day Makes - Tony Bennett
Have You Met Miss Jones - Robbie Williams (B.J.'s D. too)
An Affair to Remember - the score, from the Sleepless In Seattle soundtrack
So You Are To Me - Eastmountiansouth
Samwise The Brave - LOTR Two Towers soundtrack, track 18
Farewell to Lorien - LOTR TT, track 20
You Belong To Me - Jason Wade, from the Shrek soundtrack
When You Know - Shawn Colvin
Song For You - Ray Charles
Cathedrals - Jump Little Children (song played at the end of Everwood's
season finale last year)
At Last - Etta James (long version)

Songs from the playlist I run when I'm working (assorted mellowish and
peppier music):
I Am Superman - REM
Beautiful One - Johnny Lang
Wave Goodbye - Steadman
Call and Answer - Bare Naked Ladies
Falling For the First Time - B.N.L.
It's All Been Done - B.N.L. again
New Favorite Things - Balligomo Ft. Lucy Woodward
All The Small Things - Blink 182
I Don't Want To Be - Gavin DeGraw (One Tree Hill's intro)
Not Of This Earth - Robbie Williams (B.J.'sD. soundtrack too I think)
Breathe - Michelle Branch
Are You Happy Now - M.B.
You Set Me Free - M.B.
One Of These Days - M.B. again
Long Time Gone - Dixie Chicks
It Had To Be You - Harry Connick Jr., from the When Harry Met Sally
soundtrack
A Wink And A Smile - H.C. Jr. too, Sleepless in Seattle soundtrack
Falling - Donna Lewis, from the Simply Irresistible soundtrack
The Puppy Song - Harry Nilsson, You've Got Mail soundtrack (have you noticed
that I like a few songs from movies?)
Perfect Day - Hoku
Wherever You Will Go - The Calling
Hero - Chad Kroeger
Today's The Day - Aimee Mann
Anywhere You Go - Shawn Colvin
Breathe In - Paloalto
Time - Chantal Kreviazuk
Falling Down - Avril Lavigne
Extraordinary - Liz Phair (I love this song)
Take A Look - L.P. (on second thought, this might not be a good choice...
listen to the lyrics... lol)
Why Can't I - L.P. again
Breathing - Lifehouse
Hangin' By A Moment - Lifehouse (acoustic version)
Somewhere In Between - Lifehouse
Summer Sun - Koop (jazz - get the orig. version)
Breathe - Faith Hill
The Secret Of Life - F.H. (I also have Cry on this playlist, but I'm not
sure it's appropriate for labor...)
Bring On The Day - Charlotte Martin, Sweet Home Alabama soundtrack
Mine All Mine - She Daisy (good song, don't know if it's a good labor
choice...)

You know, as I'm going though the work list I keep encountering these songs
I love and have been bopping my head (et al) to while working that take on a
whole new meaning when you think of them being played during labor. For
example I was going to suggest a few things from Sixpense None the Richer
(eyes wide open, breathe your name, and don't dream it's over), but the
lyrics in them... well download 'em and listen.
Also, as I'm picking out these songs from the viewpoint of would "I" want to
listen to them during labor, I'm discovering trends in my choices. Some
things like Hero & Extraordianry, all the songs with breath in their titles,
and so on. It's been veeeery interesting listening to 'em as I go over my
playlists to see if I want to include them on this list. Anyway, back to the
list...

Here With Me - Plumb
Virtual Insanity - Jamiroquai
Breathless - The Corrs

The rest of the songs I'd suggest would be many from (if not all of ) Sarah
Mclachlans new album (Afterglow), and songs from Avril Lavigne, Natalie
Merchant, Hillary Duff (no, really - good sound to stuff like Anywhere But
Here), more from Liz Phair, more from the Spirited Away soundtrack,
Nickleback, Third Eye Blind, Coldplay, more from Michelle Branch, Natalie
Imbruglia, some of Diana Krall's songs... This could be a much longer list.
)
Oh, and I ditto the suggestion for John Mayer's songs. I particularly like
83, St. Patrick's Day, Moonlight Kiss (serendipity soundtrack), Why Georgia,
Not Myself, and No Such Thing.
