A thought for those with school age kids
I've been reading with interest the various threads by parents whose kids
are starting school this year. I just got the September Issue of Today's Parent, and there was a *really* neat idea in there that I thought I'd pass on, FWIW. The idea was "Back to School Parties." Apparently, a number of people will host (with other parents, I assume) an end of the year, going back to school party for the neighbourhood kids as a way of marking the transition from Summer to Fall. One person talked about having different themes each year, and what caught my attention was the Hiking Party theme, the year her son was starting school. Everybody decorated walking sticks, then hiked to the school. There, the kids played in the playground and picnicked, then hiked home. It gave the new kids a chance to walk the route to school, and everybody aparently had a great time. Like I said, FWIW :-D Marie Chris and Alex--born 04/23/03 at 31wks gestational :-) |

Interesting to see this right now...I'm on the computer to finish off my
invitations for my girls' "End-of-the-Summer Princess Tea Party". I'm not as "in" to all the play dates that we've been invited to all summer. I felt a bit like a bad Mommy for not going or inviting others over, so I'm getting it all done in one shot All their little girlfriends from last year's class will come over at the end of this month to get re-acquainted before this year begins. We're going hand out cheapie crowns when they arrive. Then they'll decorate cookies, have tea and cake, play, and then eat a very light lunch. All the kids will get to take their cookie home as their treat. 2 hours later I'm hoping we will all have had a nice time, be excited for school (a whole 4 hours a week), be full in the belly, and Mommy's guilt will be a memory LOL! It's all the girls can talk about right now Thanks for sharing that article. I struggled with whether or not it was a good idea. I wanted to make sure it was inexpensive and casual so the other Moms/Dads didn't feel "funny" about it. But, I also felt it was for Morgan and Julia and *they* would love it. And dang it, I'm a sucker for those little girls Missy in Indiana http://hometown.aol.com/mhrust/overviewforng.html Morgan Olivia & Julia Lucille 4/28/01 (YAY!) |
