Tucson woman accused of killing children wants trial moved

The defense attorney for a Tucson woman accused of killing her
boyfriend’s two young children and concealing their bodies has asked a
judge to move her trial out of Pima County.
There is no way Reina Gonzales would ever receive a fair trial in Pima
County, defense attorney Brick Storts wrote in a motion filed earlier
this week.
Not only has there been an enormous amount of coverage about the deaths
of Ariana Payne, 4, and Tyler Payne, 5, but the media has also provided
extensive coverage of the ongoing legislative investigation into Child
Protective Services, Storts said.
The Pima County Attorney’s Office is seeking the death penalty for
Gonzales and the children’s father, Christopher Payne.
Gonzales and Payne are charged with abusing and killing the children
sometime between March 9 and Sept. 1, 2006.
Ariana’s remains were found inside a plastic storage tub Feb. 18 after
the manager of a self-storage business near East Prince Road and North
First Avenue called police to report a foul odor. Tyler’s remains have
never been found.
Once prosecutors respond to Storts’ motion in writing, a hearing will be
scheduled so Judge Paul Tang can hear oral arguments on the issue.
Motions to change venue are rarely granted. The last murder defendants
to be tried outside Pima County were Christopher “Bo� Huerstel and Tom
Prasertphong, whose first trials were held in Prescott in September 2000.

Imagine that, 6.4 children die at the hands of the very agencies that
are supposed to protect them and only 1.5 at the hands of parents per
100,000 children. CPS perpetrates more abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse
and kills more children then parents in the United States. If the
citizens of this country hold CPS to the same standards that they hold
parents too. No judge should ever put another child in the hands of ANY
government agency because CPS nationwide is guilty of more harm and
death than any human being combined. CPS nationwide is guilty of more
human rights violations and deaths of children then the homes from which
they were removed. When are the judges going to wake up and see that
they are sending children to their death and a life of abuse when
children are removed from safe homes based on the mere opinion of a
bunch of social workers.
