Police arrest sex offender at community center

On Monday, June 11, 2007, at 7:34 pm, Southeast Precinct officers
arrested 35-year-old Thomas Lee Benson on one count of Invasion of
Privacy, one count of Misuse of Public Restroom, and one count of
Failing to Register as a Sex Offender after responding to a report of
a suspicious person at the Mt. Scott Community Center.

Witnesses told officers that Benson, who was dressed in women's
clothing, was seen going into the women's locker room at least two
times over a several hour period of time.

Once inside the locker room, he reportedly changed clothing while
young children changed into and out of bathing suits.

Benson is a Predatory Sex Offender as defined in the Oregon Sex
Offender Registry. Based on information learned since June 11, 2007,
investigators believe that Benson may have gone into women's dressing
rooms in other community centers in the past weeks or months.
