Kimberly,
When I had my initial u/s in Jan, when they diagnosed di-di twins, they said there is a 10% chance of being identical. And I read the initial u/s report and they're assuming that I ovulated twice, possibly different times, due to the difference in size (or it could be they're just developing at different rates). I just hope they're healthy. I could go for identical, why not make it more difficult...LOL. But I just hope they last long enough to be born healthy and safe. I am curious though, the fact that they are Di-Di, is that the only reason they are concluding that they are fraternal? Because I was under the impression that they could still be identical... just curious. Kimberly |

Gotcha! I understand. I don't know if you are aware or not but my girls were Di-Di. We still haven't had a DNA test done. But they look very similar. Majority of people would say they are identical. I also have a friend that recently did the DNA test and her boys are ID and they were Di-Di. You won't know for sure unless you have them DNA tested. It hasn't been a big enough concern for us to fork over the hundred dollars yet. Kimberly |

On average, one-third of twins are identical, and roughly one-third of ID twin sets have separate placentas. So, out of every nine sets of twins, on average, two sets are identical with shared placents one set is identical with separate placentas six sets are identical with separate placentas .... which means that if you know the placentas are separate, your odds of ID twins are actually more like one out of seven, or about 14%. However, I've seen various figures for the percentage of ID twins that share placentas, so it's not totally unreasonable to say one in ten. --Helen |

Kimberly,
I don't know what the DNA test would cost here in Canada, but unless it's needed for medical reasons, I won't bother looking into it. ID or not, as long as they're healthy, I'll take what I can get. And if they're ID, then that much more *fun* for everyone else. LOL When in school, we had a set of (what I thought) non-ID twins. But, Mom, who was the school secretary, couldn't tell them apart, AND they lived 2 doors down from us. To us in class, it was easy to tell them apart, but I guess if you're not around them constantly, even non-ID twins can be a struggle for some. Carla kimberly wrote: Gotcha! I understand.
