new rotavirus vaccine? Anyone had their child vaccinated?

Hi, I'm trying to decide whether to have my daughter immunized with the new (as opposed to the old, problematic one) vaccine. I've spoken to two different pediatricians about it, and they both feel its safe. Has anyone had their child vaccinated? On the one hand, I'm wary because its only been out a year, but apparently thousands of children have been immunized with it without problems. And I hate the stomach flu, if I could have been immunized for it, I'd probably do it! Anyway, just wondering if any of you moms have, and how you feel about it. My son got rotavirus it was pretty bad (not life threatening) he just missed the cut off when the vaccine was released by a few weeks. You have to be vaccinated by 6 months. The virus is very contagious and I caught it our house looked like a seen out of the Exorcist. The odds of your child getting it are about 80% and some kids (not many) die of it. The question you have to ask is which is safer geting infected by a live Virus with all the DNA protiens capsid fragments and other rubbish (which btw will not give your child immunity) or being injected a pruified protein antigen from the virus surface. For me the choice is simple but you do what you like. |

Here is an interesting stat comparison that has me wondering why building sub divisions without sidewalks is such a trend; maybe because sidewalks don't generate revenue? lol. More than 658 children die each year as a result of pedestrian injury compared to 20-60 deaths per year from rotavirus. (Haven't found the stats on injuries requring hospitalizations for pedestrian-vehical accidents yet though to compare to the hospitalization stat from rotavirus - prolly just as interesting) |
